I'm about to buy one and some basic attachments.

After reading some reviews about different makes, I'm no more informed as to which is good, bad, or so so...

So, anyone here have any experience with one they'd recommend, along with attachments that will get me started or suggest some specialty attachments?

Go with a rotozip, I love mine, it has made many projects a lot easier on me. I highly recommend one.

I have a standard dremel brand and it's worked great. For accessories check out harbor freight. I haven't noticed much difference in quality/life of consumables like cutoff wheels between the name brands and the cheap stuff. The snake is good if you are going to need to be in tight spaces. It works better than it looks like it would.

I also had a craftsman brand dremel blow up in my hand, FWIW

My dad has had the same dremel-brand dremel tool since at least the mid 90s, maybe longer. He uses it ALL the time too and it still runs like a champ. I think by now he has every attachment for it that one can concieve of.

I got one a few years back, and it works great. (Dremel brand from the home despot)

As far as the attachments, I've found myself going and buying new ones as a practical use comes up, but I also bought one of those 200 piece sets and that more or less has been more than enough to start. The one thing I'd recommend for sure is the flex shaft thing. You have much greater control with that than the dremel tool itself when trying to do intricate work.

These days the 400 series XPR are the top of Dremel's line, unless you want cordless, it's the best bet, and it takes most of Dremel's accessories.

and with the flex shaft attachment, you might be able to pick up a little 'walking around change' doing some dental work in the 'hood'.

I've got one of the XPRs, and mine came in a kit with some basic attachments, including the flex shaft.

Other attachments really depend on what uses you have in mind. I do suggest a multi-chuck. Makes swapping bits easier.

P.S. I have no plans to whittle on me guns, but I'm forever needing to grind something small that I don't want to use my bench grinder on. Or, saw some small weird angle thingy of one kind or another.

After some practice, I might melt down down some old gold and with my upcoming trusty dremel tool make a "grill" for that cool guy look though...

My wife thinks I even use my Dremel to cook.

My "grill" will fit over my front teef - [abbreviated profanity deleted] dat coo Gucci/g'd up look.

I have the RZ20, It is the one that comes with the bag and other attachments, the ceramic cutting wheel works great on a tile counter top and the metal cutting wheel is good for cutting a kid's fingers out of a stainless steel bench.
