How comparable (if at all...?) in time and difficulty to actually have your pistol in hand - is a tuckable holstered gun as compared to a shoulder holstered gun?

I know I really like the comfort of a shoulder holster as compared to an OWB holster, but the two cannot be compared when it comes to retrieving the pistol - the OWB wins every time.

I have no experience with a tuckable holster - as they look to be uncomfortable and a lot of work to get the pistol out. That said, I don't know if that statement is true, partially true or totally wrong.

Do you have experience with a tuckable, OWB, and shoulder holster and can offer comparisons for all regarding comfort and efficient (or not) pistol retrieval?

For tuckable holsters they can be about as difficult to draw from as a shoulder rig with a closed shirt or jacket over it, but alot of people think they can draw quicker from an tuckable rig as they don't have to fight snaps and/or buttons to get to it. You don't have to tuck your shirt in to use a tuckable either, you can use it like any other IWB rig. The two most comfortable IWB holsters I have ever tried were tuckables, the first was a Tucker "The Answer" and the second is a similar rig that in my opinion is more comfortable would be the CrossBreed SuperTuck Deluxe. Regardless of how you carry each rig will have drawbacks, and these are the ones I can think of off hand.

Shoulder: You will muzzle a lot of people behind you, thus violating one of the four rules. Can be difficult to draw from with a closed shirt, jacket, or other garment covering the rig.

IWB: Reduced comfort, You have to lift or move the cover garment to gain access and to draw, Tuckable holsters add pulling your shirt out of your waist band to slightly increase difficulty.

OWB: Increased risk of accidentally breaking concealment, you still have to lift or move the cover garment to draw.


For the record I usually carry in a SuperTuck Deluxe and half the time I carry untucked.
