This is a sad story that reinforces why we need to be armed.

The LAPD worked with their best efforts to protect a woman who
was being stalked by a crazy ex.

He managed to stab her to death while officers were right outside
her apartment. Then officers shot him to death.

When I lived in Atlanta, there was a case where a woman who had fled her apartment due to an abusive domestic partner asked police to accompany her back inside to get her things so she could move elsewhere. Two officers went inside with her. Without warning, the domestic partner drew a handgun and shot the woman who was standing between the two officers. The officers returned fire with fatal results for the assailant. The woman also died of her wounds.

A domestic homicide and suicide by cop all rolled into one.

Domestic calls are some of the most dangerous police roll on due to close contact with little or no available cover, roiling emotions, intoxication by a variety of substances, and frequent shifts from compliance to attack in the blink of an eye and from complainant to assailant in the same time frame.
