This guy had to defend himself against a drunk woman with a 9mm. All he had was a .22 pistol with 9 rounds.

I'm still not switching to a .22, though, for EDC.

My Ruger Mk III's hold 10 + 1 rounds each and they are certainly pleasant to shoot.

That said, I'd probably be answering a "late night pounding on my door/house" with either a .45 acp 1911 or another 1911 .45 acp., depending upon where I was in the house at the time when the "pounding" commenced. I think it would be also appropriate for Mrs. Oldgringo to have dialed 91 and poised to dial the last 1 during this time.

Back on point, a .22 handgun in the hand is much better than a rock or scissors at a time like this.

That DA is an IDIOT!!!

District Attorney Pete Hautzinger wrote in a letter sent Thursday to Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey:

"In declining to file criminal charges here, I do not intend to condone or endorse anything that happened. I certainly believe that neighborhood disputes are usually better resolved without firearms being involved."

So you don't condone a man defending his life from inside his own home when threatened and then attacked by a woman with a gun?!?!?!?!?

Would you condone him standing in his own door way and being shot to death?



I would not have opened that door either, but once he did so, that guy did NOTHING wrong at all based on the admittedly limited info I have from the news story. Any DA who would not "condone" a citizen's God-given right to self-defense should not have the privilege of being a DA for much longer. Someone up there in Denver needs to vote that moron out of office.

Without the full context of the DA's remark it sounds good to me. He isn't filing charges - good, not giving an opinion for a DA that's okay, and I agree it is best if disputes can be resolved without the use of a firearm.

I agree. I just think this adds to the anecdotal evidence that the .22 can certainly be a deadly caliber. It is not my choice for protection, but it served well in this case.
