I am about to take my first road trip to Tennessee since getting my CHL.

My route is going to be through LA, MS, AL, GA and then TN. I have checked with http://www.handgunlaw.us and I believe I am OK to in most of the listed states but AL is the one that seems 'iffy'.

Is it best to avoid going through AL altogehter or just unload and lock the weapons in the trunk or just carry anyway as I believe that AL has full reciprocity?

All thoughts and advice welcome.

Why do you ask about Alabama specifically? I don't see that their reciprocity with Texas is different than the other states you listed.

Well mainly because I heard of someone having a hard time in AL.... but that may have been just after they (Alabama) agreed reciprocity.

I think I will end up carrying and just drive safely :)

Just one more thing.....is there any limit as to how much ammunition you can carry across state lines?

I travelled through all those states except Tennessee over the Thanksgiving holidays without any problems and I carried the whole time. I also tried not to do anything that would have gotten myself pulled over either; just behave yourself on the roads and you should be OK.

I have traveled in all of them with no problem. Just be aware of their individual laws for concealed carry and prohibited locations. I travel at least 2 times a year from the Conroe area to Spartanburg, S. Carolina without any problems. The only time I've been pulled over was in Jackson, Ms by Jackson P.D. Didn't get a ticket because they were pulling over suspicious vehicles, and they claimed that since I had Texas Lic. plates it made me suspicious!! I had my loaded handgun under the drivers seat and they didn't have a problem with it, so a short stop and they let me go on my way. Obey the speed laws and you shouldn't have any problems.

All went great, no traffic stops, no incidents. I was a bit narked at not being able to carry into any restaurant that sold alcohol but other than that I just went about my vacation as if I was in Texas.

On a side note the price off ammunition in Tennessee was off the scale! $42 for a pack of 50 .380 reloads! Gun prices seemed a little higher too.
