My sister is a new shooter and having a serious problem with recoil anticipation (always shooting low). I saw some laser boresighters for pistol calibers. These are the versions that are shaped like a cartridge, and fit inside the barrel like a normal round. I was thinking this would help her dry fire exercises because she would be able to visually see the dot move when pulling the trigger.

Does anyone know if it is OK to dry fire with one of these in the chamber? I'm not really concerned about the laser. I'm more concerned about damage to the firing pin if the case material (brass) is too hard. Anyone have any thoughts?

I would not do it. If the pistol has a rail, get a cheap laser.

No rail needed. Once of those "universal" lasers that attach to the trigger guards will do. They sell for $15-30.

I got one thinking it might be useful for my bedside gun. Turns out it doesn't stay put very well, but I did find it useful for dry firing practice.

Or just buy one of the laser pointers they sell for cats at the grocery store and tape it on. You aren't using it for actual aiming so it doesn't really matter if it lines up with the sights as long as you can see the dot move around when she's pulling the trigger.

Don't pay too much like I did.

or just use the "wall drill".... it's free (unless you feel the need to invest in a snap cap)
