The best part.
Who can keep from laughing.

On Jan. 6, Hester called a family friend who also had a key to the home, telling him that if he wanted to get anything out of the house he should do it because he was going to burn it for insurance money, the affidavit stated. Hester then told the man he was going to stage it to look like a space heater in the bathroom started the fire by placing towels around it, according to the report. The report stated that Hester also told the man he would give him $3,000 to pay off his truck.

The next day, the man contacted Zavalla Police and requested an officer escort him to the home at 240 Jacks Street.

The man and officer arrived to find smoke coming from the home and found that the bathroom had burned, the affidavit stated. There was damage to the floor, wall and shower curtain near the space heater — set up just as Hester told the man it would be, according to the affidavit.

Definitely a candidate for stupid criminal of the year, but he doesn't qualify for the Darwin Awards since he did not remove himself from the gene pool. :)

I bet that's an interesting investigation.
If the attorney was the current owner?, (says HE deeded it to the attorney? He must be a beneficiary of the trust?) I wonder what "insurance money" the "towel placer" intended to collect .... for contents? Wonder what (over $3,000.00 of) scheduled items were on the owner's homeowner's policy that were owned by "Mr. Towel Placer"?
Renter's insurance? Holdover tenancy for after deeding the property? hmmm
Property taxes are generally due by the end of January if "the owner" doesn't want to pay the penalty.
However, the Attorney's deed either wasn't filed, or not recorded yet in the Property records, or not picked up yet by the Central Apraisal District
HESTER ROY L ETUX BETTY TRUSTEES are still listed as 100% owners, not the "towel placer kid" nor the attorney, and I don't see any tax due.

.
just sayin' .... I bet that's an interesting investigation.
