I own several firearms but am missing a nice/reliable .22 rifle from the collection. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good .22 rifle at a decent price?

Ruger 10-22.
Reliable, accurate, easily customized.
You can leave it as you bought it or customize it 9 ways from Sunday.
I know of no other .22 rifle with the assortment of add-ons, upgrades, and replacement parts on the market today.

Love my Ruger 10-22.
Love my Browning 22 even more. My dad gave it to me when I was 10.

More inexpensive, and supposedly more accurate out of the box than the ruger is a Marlin 795. I picked one up after Christmas, and it's a tack driver.

Marlin is running a rebate on them right now, and you can find them in-store for $100-$150. They don't have as many options for customizing, but if you are primarily concerned with cost and accuracy, making mods doesn't matter so much. Comes with sling swivels already installed, and there's a company that sells a picatinny rail that mounts directly to the receiver.

Might want to check it out too. I love mine.

The Ruger 10/22 is the AR of the 22 rifles. Ruger even offers it in an AR style platform now called the SR-22.

I have a 10/22, a Marlin Model 60, a Henry Golden Boy 22, and a standard Henry 22 lever action. The 10/22 is the worst shooter out of em all.

I put a couple hundred rounds through my Henry 22 today and was able to shoot 22lr and 22shorts.

I guess it depends on what you want to use the gun for, but my vote is for the Henry.

What flb_78 said...sorta'. My little open sight Henry .22 carbine will put 'em all in the same hole at 10 yards.

My 10/22 trigger assembly is going over to Clark's Custom Guns next week for their polishing treatment that reduces trigger pull to 2.5 -2.75# which will greatly improve the fun and accuracy and of shooting it.

Good to know about the accuracy of the 10/22. I'm not to concerned with customizing. The 30rnd mags available are nice but not if I have to sacrifice accuracy. I'm just looking for something at a reasonable price that hits what I'm aiming at.

At the risk of sounding redundant, Ruger 10/22.

Marlin Model 60 for me. It outshoots every 10/22 I have ever owned or shot. And, another nod for the Henry lever gun.

I have a Marlin Model 60 (bought new when when I got my first job at 15, I'm 50 now), Winchester Model 62A, Henry Lever, and 10/22. My overall fav is the Winchester, it's just so smooth and accurate, but finding a good one under a grand is a problem. That said, the Henry gets shot more than the others, it's because it shoots shorts in the backyard. My 10/22 is Tacticooled out and much fun too, but only at the range or in the country (pic attached, the laser has been replaced by a bipod). Buy anything you like and have fun!

Henry .22 lever action (standard) gets my vote.

Have looked at the 22 bolt action that Savage Is putting out these days? I have my eye on one it has a 20inc bull barrell for about $300.00 dollars not bad. It will be the next 22 I buy.

the Savage bolt gun can really be a tack driver.
