Has anyone attended the Gunsite Defensive Pistol 250 course out there who might comment on what they think of it? I am considering going halvies on sending my son who is showing real interest and promise in handgun shooting, but it is rather expensive, and I thought a little first-hand report might be helpful.

I thought it was worthwhile but it was a transformational experience for me and I believe it saved my life. Make no mistake. Gunsite pistol class, and 250 in particular, is not about becoming a better shooter, although that may be one result for some people. The purpose of 250 is to improve your chances of surviving a violent interpersonal conflict. Physically, emotionally/psychologically and, to a lesser extent, legally.

Their website reads like they mean business. I think Magpuls new pistol DVD is pretty cool. I have not seen the entire video but a good preview. I know watching DVD is not substitute for real world training but if your don't have the clams or time to go to a course their DVD's are better than nothing. I too am interested in their courses but I know I will not ever have to time or money to attend.

Absolutely nothing wrong with books and DVD learning. It is just important to keep learning and to know the limitations.
