A co-worker just got his FFL and cut me a good deal on an XDM. I picked up this gun (
http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product ... _id=107871" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) for $580 out the door. I could have purchased a basic XD for about $140 less than hte XDM, but I realy wanted to try and XDM. I was tempted to save the $140 and use that to upgrade a regular XD but after checking prices for trigger work and a match grade barrel I didn't think I could come out better than what the XDM offers. I have a Kahr for concealed carry so I sold the G30 and bought this XDM for when I want something larger or easier to shoot (the Kahr MK40 is definately not a gun to shoot all day with). What I really liked is I told him to order it Tuesday and I picked it up yesterday, I am an impatient man so this was great. It would have really been a great deal if there was a way to avoid the $40 in taxes (but there isn't). The only place close to his price was Bud's gun shop, but I would have paid more when I included transfer fees. So far the gun feels good, when I get time to head to PSC in the next week or two I will post a range report and see just how the match grade barrel does as far as accuracy. I will also post how I like the XDM features.
First edit before shooting- I really like the case it comes in. It looks like something Pelican would make, I am not sure if it really is made by them. It's definately the best case from any gun I have purchased to date. Hopefully I can get some pics and firs this thing so I can post results by next week.

I think you chose right. Son in Law has the XD & son the XDm. I have the XD45. There is a difference in the trigger. You did well.

You did well. I have an M, and I love it. It's truly a joy to shoot.

I have both an XD and an XDm. I prefer the XDm over most XDs, but when compared to my XD its a little heavy on the trigger. I got my XD from a member here and he did not mention having had any trigger work done on it, but I suspect he did or that the gun is that one exceptional gun that comes occasionally off the assembly line with a great trigger. In my opinion the XDm is one of the best choices out there.

My 15 yo nephew got an XDm at my recommendation with his Christmas money year before last. It is a GREAT gun.
Congrats on the purchase. I am sure you will be very happy with it.

My main gun is the XDm 9mm. It is a GREAT shooter. I don't carry it much due to it's size. but it is a well made gun. You did well.

The February 2010 issue of the NRA magazine "America's 1st Freedom"
has a multi-page article on Springfield Armory. It starts on page 48.
I tried to find some way to link to it so everyone could see it, but I was
unable to find a way to do so.
The XDM line has launched a new numbering system.
The original XDM, which has a 4.5" barrel and slide, is now known
as the "4.5 XD (M)". IIRC, you can get this one in 9MM or .40.
Springer has just introduced a new sub-compact XDM.
This one is known as the "3.8 XD(M)" since it has a 3.8" barrel.
It is available in 9MM. The barrel is .8" longer than the XDSC at 3.0",
but it is still a very concealable gun.

Here's to hoping they release a .40 S&W of the 3.8... I carry my .40 XDM sometimes instead of my LCP and would love a 3.8 in 40 S&W... kind of surprised they didn't release one at the SHOT show this week...

Does SA have any plans to release the XDM in .45 ACP? I think I'd like to have an XD45, but if it is going to be coming out soon in XDM form any time soon, I would wait.

I read that one was supposed to be out this year. If I were more patient I would have waited, but I wanted something now.

I finally made it to PSC today to take the XDM for a run. It shoots as well as can be expected, I really do not see any difference in this match grade barrel versus any other gun I have shot. I have never really had a handgun that didn't shoot good groups. So, it shot well and I like the way the XDM's feel. Really the only negative I have is that it is extremely difficult to drop a loaded magazine. I read somewhere that the XDM's are like that but I haven't figured out why yet. Overall I am pleased with the XDM and have no regrets purchasing it - I'm not convinced that it was worth the extra $140 over the regular SD though.

to release a fully loaded magazine, simply push up on the bottom of the mag as you press the release. The spring is under full tension and will make it difficult (if not near impossible) to remove the full mag unless you do this.
