After trying the magnet mount and an Uncle Mike's RH nylon holster I had laying around, I bought a left hand UM's and mounted my 9mm MilPro this evening.

Total cost: $15 (with supplies on hand)

NOTE: Applies only where legal. And this is NOT a pro/con gun-in-the-car thread, please.

Left hand holster allows retention with the strap and snap. (Eliminates the flying-object-in-collision objection)

Covered with a small hand towel and mounted low behind tinted windows it is concealed.

Nice engineering there...ingenious even.

Questions:

1. is the holster just screwed directly into the center "hump" of the car with sheet metal screws? what are the rubber washers/spacers/gaskets for in the photo? keep the holster spaced a half inch away from the center "hump"?

2. how quickly can you move towel, unsnap holster retention with your right hand (using thumb I guess? seems this was made to be snapped off by shooting hand finger for a lefty), and draw the pistol?

I like the concept, just see some potential pitfalls and slow downs in the execution.

Yes, there are several trade off's.

And, yes, rubber washers are to provide space between the grip and the console for gripping. Otherwise commercial velcro would work, but leave no room to draw.

The Touring has very limited space in the footwell area and no console space whatsoever.

I can yank the towel, pop the snap, and draw in about 2 seconds.

Cost - excellent
Retention - excellent
Access - good
Concealment - good (black on black, mounted low, behind tinted windows, covered with a towel)

I like it. I have a similar set up in my truck. However , I used a towel that closely matches the interior color of the vehicle only because I wanted it to be less noticable while I'm away from the truck.

Thanks for the follow up. Do you pop the snap with your right-hand thumb on the draw? Just curious, seems awkward from the photos. But then my thumbs are weak and crippled from years of topping off Glock mags

I like it! I thought about something similar on my car, but what I may do is just a sticky back velcro to the front of the drivers seat.

You can pop the snaps with your other fingertips.

Only takes a couple of seconds to unsnap and draw.

I'm eager to see everyone's DIY car mounts and maybe find a better system.

Thanks to Texas we can carry in our vehicles now.

I need to do that in my company truck.It's just a plain old F250. No center console or map pockets.
