Process for obtaining CHL more strenuous??

I was told by a firearms dealer in Galveston, TX that if I was planning on obtaining my CHL, to do it before March of this year. He stated that the state was going to make it a more strenuous process in changing the written exam from 50 questions to 300. He also said that permission would need to be granted before taking the CHL class and that process could take about 2 months in itself. Does anyone know if this is true? ....Just to not have to deal with all that, my wife and I already took the class last weekend. ;-)

Welcome to the forum.

That rumor about the test is bogus. Nothing has changed or will change from September 1, 2009 until possibly in 2011.

The entire process of getting a CHL, from the time you take the class until you have plastic in hand, is less than two months at this time. That is what it has been historically.

Please send me a private message and tell me which dealer said that. I need to break out my Sawzall.

Wow, where did that come from? 300 questions and a referral?

The Texas Legislature was in session in 2009 with changes to CHL going into effect on 9-1-2009. There will be no changes in March 2010.

Edit: Jim types faster than I do!

Wasn't there a thread debunking this rumour, just a few days ago?

txcshooter, welcome to the forum! There's a wealth of information here at your fingertips and a wonderful group of men & women to help you on your journey toward a CHL.

As the others have stated, what that dealer said has absolutely no basis in truth what so ever. It's a vicious rumor.

As far as naming the dealer, I suggest you contact a Moderator listed at the top of this page and pm him with your findings and tell him what dealer it is. Ask him if you should publish the name. I wouldn't until you get the go ahead.

My $.02 worth.

Perhaps the "ammo on sale" thread should likewise refrain from naming names. Can't be too careful.
