I bought all the stuff to do DuraCoat and took on my old beater 1911 as the first project. I detail stripped the gun, to include removing the sights, sand blasted, degreased, and applied 2 coats of "woodland tan" duracoat to the frame and slide and two coats of "black oxide" to the thumb safety, grip safety, and slide lock. After allowing a day to dry I reassembled the gun and put the fiber optic front sight back on not being too fond of the old rear sight I ordered a new wide notch one from Novak's. When it arrived I installed the rear sight and carefully centered it on the slide.

Today was range day, the gun shoots to point of aim at 20 yards! No tweaking of the sights was necessary! This is the first time I've put sights on a gun that they didn't need to be regulated! Even a blind hog - - -

The jade colored grips with the Texas Star didn't show up on the tan color so I went to a pair of Mahogany double diamond grips.

You can't tease a duracoat related post without pictures. That's rude. Seriously, I want to Duracoat something.

I started work on another project today. I have a little Stevens single shot .22 rifle that got thoroughly rusted after being soaked and left under a pile of debris after Hurricane Rita in 2005. I picked it up the other day and found to my amazement the bore was still bright and shiny. I decided to make this my next project.

I took it apart and sandblasted the surface removing all the scaled rust and old bluing. Surprisingly the surface was only mildly pitted I applied two coats of DuraCoat Black Oxide to the barrel and it almost looks new! I have a set of Marble's sights on the way, the stock needs to be repaired and re finished. It should make a good little "handy rifle" or training rifle for the grand kids. I'll post photos when it is finished.

I bought a sandblast gun from Harbor Freight Tools cost about $15 and a deluxe airbrush kit from HFT also about $20. I had the air compressor etc.
