After weeks of having this laser installed on my XD 45 without use, I finally made it to Top Gun this past Saturday afternoon to try it out. Sadly, I am not impressed.

First off, the laser was barely visible in the newly-renovated firing lanes, so sighting it in wasn't even an option.

Secondly, with just 25 or so rds. down range I noticed the battery cover on the laser was loose and in need of tightening. Same thing happened after the next 25 rds. And the next 25. And so on...

By the time I had exhausted my allotted 150 rds., not only was the battery cover loose again but the entire rear sight had slid over to the right a good 3/16 of an inch. (Meaning the laser's center securing screw was also not holding up to the recoil of the gun).

After repositioning the rear sight to it's proper location and securing it as tightly as I could, (without snapping the miniscule allen wrench in two), I noticed that the laser itself was now a little bit off to the left from where I had originally calibrated it.

Anyone have a better experience with this product than me?

Yes. In all seriousness, take it off. I have been suspicious of that product from the first time I saw it — reason being that it is mounted on the slide, not underneath it, not off to the side of it, but on it. There are tremendous forces in the reciprocating mass of the slide, and the accelerations are stopped very abruptly. I just doesn't seem to me like a slide mounted laser would stand up very well. I would send it back to the manufacturer, asking them to exchange the full retail value against the purchase of some other laser aiming device that is not slide mounted, for instance their Classic Universal, QD Universal, or their Subcompact Version 2.

Have about 500 rounds through my XD-40sc with the same sight. I put locktite on the set screw holding the sight in place and have not had problems with it moving. Did have problems with the battery cover so i put fingernail polish on those threads and stopped that problem. My laser is not set to point of aim with the sights except for distance(15 yds) and is set for windage lined up straight down the slide just inside the breakover of the slide. Works very well for me.

Thanks. I'll give this a try before just scrapping the whole sight.

I did this after cleaning the gun on Saturday; I'll hope it works for me as well as it has for you!

Glad to hear that somebody's got one that works as advertised!

Just spoke with a customer service representative at Laserlyte, and she claimed that Laserlyte is not getting calls from other owners with these very same issues. Maybe that's because Laserlyte doesn't have a toll-free customer service number!

As a result of our conversation, Laserlyte is sending me a new rear-sight laser and a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope to return the junk that's currently on my gun.

Fingers crossed for "performance as advertised" on the new one...
