Just read through the "clip vs Mag" again & I too was prowd of our folks but not at all surprised. So, guys & gals, since yall are gonna need something constructive to keep you busy & out of the cookie jar while I am busy for a few days. Yall work on this one.
There are still a few really old timers out there that put their hand guns in a scabbard instead of a holster.
How do you tell the difference in the two?
Which is best for revolvers & which for pistols?

Is it that IWB scabbards are hard to find?

Just because you are going to be gone for a week dosen't mean you can give home work

As near as I can tell, original usage for scabbard and sheath (yes, I know you didn't ask this one) was pretty much interchangeable and referred to anything designed to hold a weapon or tool (like an entrenching tool).

With the introduction of the term "holster" common usage seemed to shift slightly to indicate the structure of the covering so that scabbard became fully rigid, holster became semi-rigid and sheath became merely a close-fitting cover usually used to hold a non-weapon type tool or a dagger or other type of knife.

Eventually, common usage settled on scabbard being something used to carry & protect a sword (with the exception of a few modern product such as the Scabbard long gun cases), a holster used to carry & protect a firearm and sheath used to carry a bladed tool such as a knife or shovel.

As to which is best for what type of firearm, going back to the rigid vs. semi-rigid definition, I would say a holster is best for OWB carry or pocket carry and a scabbard for IWB carry.

Other than that I don't have a good answer.

I'll throw my hat in here:

A scabbard doesn't hold to the shape of the weapon, while a holster does.

The "holsters" that cowboys used were more of scabbards, I think.

Am I even close?
