Glock 26 FTE without magazine

Having only owned Browning Hi Powers (9mm and 40cal) I am used to not being able to fire without a magazine in the gun.
So having become a recent owner of a Glock 26 , I realized today at the range, I have never tried to fire it without a magazine.
Loaded one in, dropped the mag, shot it, it went boom like normal, but looking at the gun, the Shell was jammed in there, Racked the slide shook it and it came out.
Looked at the shell, it got dented real good at the lips of the case (glock was fine)
Tried it 10 more times, same thing.
So what the heck?

Glocks will fire without the magazine, but your round should have ejected but the slide lock will not stay open also your round should have not have been beat up
someone correct me if I am wrong, I do not shoot much without the mag in

Thats what I thought.
But it didnt,
Now other problems, no other hick ups, nothing.
Is it because its a 26 and smaller?

It should have positive ejection either way but if the extractor is out of tune, it may not hold it long enough to let the ejector do its job. When you have a magazine in, the upward pressure helps pop out the empty, so you might not notice the problem under normal conditions.

could you elaborate on this? How would you "re-tune" an extractor? Or does it just need to be replaced? How would you know it was out of tune except to shoot without a mag?
Curious because I've never experienced this issue with my Glocks and I believe Mark's gun is brand new.
Serious question by the way. Would really like to know more.
Thanks.

Brand spanking new.
Have you tried to shoot without a mag AustinR?

Slowly cycle a dummy round or empty brass. Does the extractor hold it securely to the breech face until the ejector hits the rim?

I've only handled a Glock 26 (drooled over) so I'm just throwing out a guess. Since there isn't much to hold onto with the magazine out, is it possible that it causes jusst enough of a limp wrist to make it stovepipe? Does it cycle 100% of the time with the magazine inserted? You'd think it would give you a few stovepipes with the magazine inserted if there was a real problem. Have you checked Glock forums?

I think (just a guess) that because of the mass difference with a magazine than without a magazine causes there to not be enough resistance to the recoil causing the Glock to move back faster which engages the slide earlier not allowing there to be enough time for the brass to eject. Also since there is no round entering the chamber which would slow down the slides forward progress, or slide lock back which would stop it, the slide moves too fast forward again allowing the brass to not be ejected quick enough.
Either/or, or I could be wrong, just a guess.

*sigh* went to the glock talk website asked about my problem basically was told
"Dont do that"
Here are some responses.
"Gosh, you are giving me nightmares. If you chambered the round from a mag and then removed the mag, the extractor should extract the round. If you chambered the round by hand, the extractor probably was not able to get over the rim of the casing--a very good way to break an extractor.
Son, just don't do it. It's a deadly weapon, not a plaything. "
"My recommendation is to not shoot your G26 without a magazine. There is no reason to do it, and its ability to shoot that way proves nothing about it, or any other gun."
"Oh, yes, the cause. It's called gravity. The fired casing can't tell without a magazine in place whether it wants to fling up or drop down. With a mag in place, it has no choice."
But I still dont know if that happens to everyone or just me.
Anyone else got a glock and want to try it this weekend?

This is a common occurence when firing a Glock without the magazine. I can't explain it, but have experienced it many times with several different guns.

Grrr. I'm thinking the explanation has to do with kinetic energy, not gravity. An object falling at 9.8 m/s^2 doesn't change if there's something under it, unless it actually collides, and I doubt that happens. Based on this guys assertion, the spent cartridge falls a bit and touches the next round being chambered and intelligently decides, "Oh, I'm supposed to go up and out!"
Regardless of the cause, It would seem that the slide doesn't have quite enough pressure to cycle the next round once the round exits the barrel. And I can't imagine how this could be unsafe to the gun or shooter; otherwise Glock, Ruger, Bersa, and S & W would most certainly put magazine safeties in all their auto loaders.
I don't have the physics to figure this out and the pin-head that responded most certainly doesn't either. And he called you son; I say we go get him.

I've never thought to try firing a round without the magazine inserted. I'm certainly gonna' try it with my UC 9 and LCP next time at the range (along with everyone here on this thread).

I've Google around and I can't get any results on "firing without a magazine". I don't think there any advantage to firing a gun without a magazine, there's just a disadvantage to a disconnector spring malfunctioning and rendering the auto loader useless (happened to my BT .380).
I thought for sure you'd get good information from a Glock forum. If it were my gun I'd get to the bottom of it to make sure it doesn't stovepipe when a magazine is inserted. Please tell me when you figure it out.
