The Galveston Police Department has a public service exam for officers on April 17. Registration required by April 8.

Pay doesn't seem too bad. Shame it would be a big pay cut for me as I wouldn't mind a career change. Thanks for posting, Jim.

You're welcome.
With the current high unemployment rate, I figure someone might be able to make use of this opportunity. Galveston will put you through the academy and doesn't require previous police experience. It seems like a good deal for a younger person who doesn't have a lot of bills to pay.

The police department reported that 739 people applied for 15 openings. They are not sure if all the positions will be funded.

Wow!
From the reading I have done, several apply that don't even meet the basic requirements. After that, the initial test will weed out more and it will keep being whittled down until there is a a much smaller number of qualified people to choose from.
