I am looking for another .45 with a higher capacity that my Springfield 1911. My first thought is a Glock 21. Does anyone have one of these or the smaller Glock 30 and what is your opinion of the pistol?

I have both the 21 and 30 and am really happy with the way they shoot.

The 21 is a big, heavy gun when fully loaded. The 30 is for concealed carry.

Glock 21 love it, except for trying to carry, I have to be careful with what I wear and how I move. Currently I am thinking of selling it and moving to a PT145 or a Glock 27.

Be sure you try one out, at least hold it at gun shop, before you buy. Both of these the grips are too large for my hands. And I'm not a small guy. The 9mm/.40/.357 Glocks fit me well. But the .45/10mm double-stack frames are too wide for me to get a secure grip.

Others - obviously - love them and they fit they're hands well.

For my 21, I got the SF (the smaller frame) and it feels great. For the 30, I have the regular grip and it feels fine too.

G30. Excellent. Fits well. Very, very accurate. Very reliable. IMO, a very fine carry pistol.

Suggestion - find a rental and go shoot it. Don't worry about how it feels. Just see how well you put holes in the paper. It may FEEL odd, but you might find you can SHOOT it well. Just focus on the shooting.

My 30 has been my every day carry for the past three years and I've been very pleased with it.

I have a Glock 21. I got rid of my 1911 in the mid 90's and bought the 21 as I was looking for a .45 with more ammo capacity. I really like it, but I have pretty big hands. When I carry it ( normal carry is Taurus PT140 ) I do so in a cross breed supertuck with a photographers vest for cover. It conceals pretty easy with this set-up.

I just shot my new Glock 30 Friday, and if I raved about it the way I want to they would probably ban me from posting.
It's as though Mr. Glock made this gun just for me!
But seriously - wow what a gun. I've learned so much re: grip and stance from this forum.
My first 5 shots were at 15 yards and rather than a pattern there was just a large hole (they were all touching). For me, this is good shooting.
I purchased 4 13 rd. mags. and ran them through the gun as well - no problems.
The guys at they range were so impressed they started giving me free ammo and asked me to sign targets for them - just kidding.
I really like the gun, and with a good gun belt and a Comp-tac Minataur IWB it conceals every bit as well as my old 27 (this part is true).
I also shot my carry ammo of choice - 230 gr. JHP +P - and the gun didn't fly out if my hands as I was led to believe it might.
It was not any different (to me) from the old 27.
They have one available for rental at the 59 gun range by the way.
I suppose I should mention this is the first .45 I've ever owned - or shot.

I own a personal G30sf, and our dept is in the process of transitioning from the G22 to the G21SF. I'm happy with both.

The 30 and 30sf are a whole lot bigger than the G26/27 counterparts, but its also a .45...so...

I have 9 and 10 rd mags for my 30SF, the 9's sit flush and conceal better. I also keep a Streamlight TLR-3 on it occasionally. (TLR-1 on duty weapon...love it).

All this said...I still LOVE 1911s....they are my first and true love, but since I don't have a choice at work, I've become a Glock fan by force...I now drink the Glock kool-aid...

I own the Glock 21sf ..it is currently my conceal carry gun...it fits very snug and comfortable in my uncle mikes inside the pants holster...The cool thing about it..you can get the kriss extention and make it 30 rounds of 45acp..but currently i am using the 50caliber conversion unit..making the gun 20% more effective in trauma and wound cavity than the standard 45acp..

I had a 21, too big for my hand, so I sold it to a Police Sgt. I also had the big 10mm; sold it as too big for my hand too.
Considering a 36 some day; but probably sticking with 9mm/.40/.357 Glocks for capacity and size of my hand. a heavy +P .40 worked very well for an officer freind of mine when he needed it.

Have you considered either the Springfield XD 45, or the Smith & Wesson M&P 45? Both have higher capacity than the 1911. Does it have to be a Glock? Consider the following:

• The Glock and the XD have a slight advantage of capacity over the M&P — both have 13+1 versus 10+1 for the M&P.
• The M&P with an empty mag weighs slightly less than either the Glock or the XD — 28.7 oz versus 29.5 oz for the Glock and 30 oz for the XD.
• The M&P comes with interchangeable palm swells to custom fit the grips to your hand, the others don't.
• The M&P and the XD have 1911-like ergonomics (for double stack pistols). The Glock has a grip like a 2x4, and tends only to fit larger hands well.
• The XD has a grip safety, like a 1911. The others don't.
• The M&P is available with or without a framed mounted thumb safety, the others are not.
• All three of the pistols have some kind of "safe action" trigger mechanism.
• The M&P's trigger pull is marginally heavier than the Glock's but it breaks cleanly compared to the Glock's mushiness. The XD trigger is nice.
• All three are striker fired.
• All three have steel slides and polymer frames.
• The XD and the M&P have stainless steel slides, the Glock does not.
• The M&P comes with low profile Novak type sights, the others do not.
• The M&P is truly ambidextrous, with ambi-thumb safety, ambidextrous slide release, and reversible magazine release button. The XD has a reversible mag release only. The Glock is entirely a right handed pistol only.
• Glock has its proprietary "Tennifer" finish, which is nearly indestructible, but both the XD come with the generically named "Melonite" finish, which is very nearly the same thing as Tennifer, and which seems nearly as indestructible.
• The Glock has a long and well-deserved reputation for reliability and ruggedness. The other two have not been on the market as long, but all three pistols have been subjected to nearly identical torture tests and have survived.

These are all three great pistols, and you would be well served by either of them, depending on your personal, individual needs. Although I think highly of Glock, I would give the other two pistols a very close look-see, and if possible, try to get a chance to fire them all side by side, or at least to dry-fire them side by side, in order to see what works best for you. My other two carry guns, by the way, are a 3" 1911, and a 5" 1911. My M&P came with the thumb-safety, if that tells you anything.

In the end, I went with the slightly lower capacity and bought myself the M&P45 based on three things: 1) lighter weight; 2) trimmer package; 3) better trigger than the Glock. But I very nearly bought an XD first. It wasn't until I had the chance to handle them side by side that I finally settled on the M&P. It works best for me. Maybe one of the others will work best for you.

Although I can carry 10 standard/12 (plus 2 extension) /13 (plus 3 extension) in my Glock 26, I usually carry 15+1 (Glock 19 mag)or 17+1 or 18+1 (Glock 19 mag with +2 or +3 extension from Pearce) in my Glock 26, but 20+1 at home in my Glock 26 (Glock 17 mag with +3 extension from Pearce).... of course I keep a 33 round mag in the car for anti-gang activity and house also, for multiple armed home invaders (from Glock 18) in my Glock 26
I also have 19 round mags, and numbers to fill in the gaps, but I carry them less often ...
Do the others have options such as that?
I mean aftermarket mag extensions etc which you can get for a Glock and other magazines which fit?

I owned 8 Glock 17s, sold them, owned several 19s, kept 1 and sold the rest, I really really like the options on the baby Glocks... so your mileage may vary, but I'd get compact, just for the options.
The XD and S&W etc are all fine machines too though.

What's important to me is not important to someone else .... just brainstorming
