I am adding a set of 45s to my stable. One will my first 1911. Question, how do you carry a full size 1911. I know some of you do. Don't tell me in a bucket either. I like the MTAC for my XD9SC and will do that with the XD45c as well. I like my Bianchi carrylok for the XD as well. So how do you guys carry a 1911? Thanks

CrossBreed SuperTuck, tucked of course since it is warming up. I wear a light vest to break up any printing when bending over or reaching. Cold weather untucked with different style vest or light windbreaker.

I carry my 5" Springfield 3 ways: IWB in a MTAC Minotaur, OWB in a Galco Concealable Belt Holster, and in a Galco Miami Classic II Shoulder Holster. Of the 3, the OWB Galco is what I use most commonly for that particular gun.

OWB - Galco concealable belt holster just like the Annoyed Man.
IWB - tuckable IWB holster from DM Bullard of Azle.

I like both holsters. OWB is more comfortable, but requires a long shirt tail or jacket. IWB works with an untucked T-shirt. Make sure you have a good gunbelt (I got mine from Galco). Don't try to just use an everyday mens belt.

Lou Alessi Body Guard shoulder holster w/ same gun. Cover w/ same vest.

I have a Galco IWB that carries all from 3"-6" just fine. It is tuckable as well. But it has no retentive capability. For OWB I use either a Galco Paddle with FBI cant or the one that comes in the Springfield with matching mag carrier. The Galco has a standard snap to keep the pistol in place, Springer uses spring tension. Both hold the pistol high up so I done need a "gansta" shirt to cover the thing up.

I carry my 5" 1911A1 OWB in a galco side snap scabbard in just cargo shorts and a long t shirt. I haven't had any problems yet, though I certainly have to be aware of wind blowing my shirt up. With a hoodie or a jacket, it would be great. Very comfortable holster.

I have ordered a Crossbreed for it...just waiting for it to come in now.

For OWB look at a Bianchi 82 Carrylok. It's the most concealable I've tried and I like knowing the gun can't fall out.

Colt Officer in Desantis Mini Slide

Colt Defender (compact 1911) in a Don Hume small of back, between rhe belt and the pants.
Have carried here ever since getting my license.
I wear semi baggy shirts untucked.

Colt Commander-sized Kimber IWB in a Crossbreed Supertuck, or OWB in a Galco Combat Master holster.

The IWB is easily concealed with a long untucked shirt. The OWB holster only works for open-carry at home or with a jacket in the winter. It prints too much for my taste with just a cover shirt. However, with the IWB Supertuck, it's very comfy and doesn't print at all. I posted pics in another thread, if interested I can provide the link.

I don't have experience with the Desantis Mini Slide, but I do own a Desantis Speed Scabbard OWB holster for the USP Compact .40 I sold recently, and it is a pretty well made holster at a very economical price.

thanks guys and what I figured. I like the way the MTAC works and suspected that will be one I will get. However, I sent them a note as I don't see a listing for the 1911 on their site but I know they make one. For OWB I like a good close fit and the Bianchi Carrylok does work well and I like the retention it gives. But was concerned with more printing with an OWB. I wear the 5.11 shirts and they are great. Both types and comfortable for summer too. The grip size is more of the issue I see and was curious. Great responses of course as always.

Call them. I know you can get a holster from them because when I bought mine (for a 3" 1911), I was able to buy a spare holster body to fit a 5" 1911 too.

I called them a couple weeks ago. The 1911 holsters are on hold while MTAC makes a design change. The lady I talked to thought it would be a matter of a couple of weeks. She suggested to sign up for the newsletter so you can get notified without having to check the web site.

I'm getting impatient. I'm ready to try something besides the SmartCarry - especially as it gets warmer outside.
