Shooting ranges near Austin w/o range nazis?

HI all,
I live in Williamson county. I was at Astro's the other day (near Briggs, TX) and I got a bunch of flack from the woman behind the counter when I wanted to shoot my SKS. She wouldn't allow the 7.62x39 Monarch ammo from Academy because it stuck to a magnet. I tried to explain that it wasn't steel core but that it was a steel case with a lead core and that if I had some steel core I sure wouldn't be plinking with it. Anyone local have any ideas on another range with someone educated enough to know the difference or is there a post on here somewhere with listings of local ranges? Thanks!

Another thought:

Bring two pairs of pliers with you next time. Let her select any random cartridge. Pull the projectile out of it. Have her test the projectile independently of the casing.

She might be able to discern the difference then.

you could go to red's north in pflugerville. they don't mind FJM, steel cased, etc. but you have to pay by the hour and it is indoors. plus you can actually stand at the rifle line and shoot
There is also Eagle Peak. But they dont' allow FJM. if yours is the HP monarch/wolf type you're OK regardless if steel cased or core. Then again if on the weekend you'll likely to familiarize yourself w/ the 'enthusiastic' range officers. weekday visits are nice and quiet.
sorry, no great solutions available.

Aren't there any gun clubs in the Austin area? Rules like that are why I belong to a gun club and do not patrionize public ranges.

Additionally, Lone Star in Lockhart doesn't have any problems with any of that kind of stuff.

NcongruNT beat me to it. I was going to recommend Lone Star. They also allow practice with your pistol in tactical matters. Rapid fire doesn't bother them. The only time I have seen them being concerned was true safety matters. Red's on the south side of Austin isn't too bad either, but has had mixed reviews. I have had no problems there, but always went in as a police officer, so it is not a real fair comparison tot hose who did have problems.

The only concern I would say with Lone Star is that it is a fair drive south of Austin, probably a 90 minute commute from Georgetown. If you like drive's, I also use Dietz's range in New Braunfels.
