Is the ruger rated to handle +p ammo? Thanks.

Page 11 of the manual says:
The RUGER® LCPTM pistols are chambered for the .380 Auto cartridge. Do not attempt to load any other cartridges into the magazine or chamber of the pistol. Do not use “+P” ammunition.
The RUGER® LCPTM pistols are compatible with standard factory ammunition loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including hollow-point loads loaded in brass or aluminum cases. No .380 Auto ammunition manufactured in accordance with NATO, U.S., SAAMI, or CIP standards is known to be beyond the design limits or known not to function in these pistols. Do not use “+P” ammunition.

Heres my take on this, and that may not mean much! I have a taurus and it says not to use +p ammo. I looked at the ratings in grain and muzzle velocity of the +p ammo I bought and it was listed within the maximum allowed grain and velocity in the chart for the gun. Albeit at the top end of the chart, it was still in the acceptable range. I figure as long as you dont shoot a truckload through there, it will be ok. Just my opinion though.

From what I hear, plus P will wear out any gun if used too much, but who's gonna' use enough SD ammo to wear out their gun. Maybe there are those who think the LCP doesn't quite kick hard enough.

On the other hand, why not just step up to a subcompact 9mm?

Why bother with +P? I heard somewhere that someone took out a coyote with one 1 JHP from an LCP; it migh've been a rumor, but I heard it somewhere.

Yeah, but he had coyote-proof hair as a backup defense.
