Restart the application process?!

I'm FINALLY going to take my CHL class this Saturday but I had started my application online around the middle of March (and paid the $140 by credit card) and just yesterday, I was poking around the DPS website and came across a notice saying that if my application wasn't in "receipt/confirmation" status by May 1, I'd have to start the application process all over again. I'm not exactly sure what that means. Do I have to make like I'm applying online again and they'll send me another packet? Are they going to try and get another $140 out of me? What's going on!? :confused5

This is the website I was re-directed to before I continue on to the the DPS CHL website:

dthlss1, I wouldn't start fretting about this just yet. You applied online and used your cc last month, so not enough time has elapsed to start worrying.

First thing I'd do would be to check you cc and see if it's been charged. If it has, no worries. If it has NOT been charged then I'd call DPS and go through a full explanation of what happened, and ask what is the status. They really will try to help you in this case, IMO.

On second thought, if the cc HAS been charged, call them up anyway, and ask them the status.

If it has NOT been charged, you can always cancel the transaction with the cc company. When you take the class, they will have all the forms you need to complete and submit to DPS anyway.

I have a feeling it has to do with the Census Bureau taking precedence over all background checks for a few weeks.

Please let us know what you find out! :tiphat:

It sounds like the change is for instructors only. http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=33430" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Maybe I'll use the "search" button a little more next time. :banghead:

I was just worried about having to shell out another $140.

Well, class on Saturday and I'll go out and get pictures and fingerprints tomorrow as well as stop by JAG to get my affidavits notarized and I should be able to mail everything after the class. :mrgreen:

Suggestion--

Run copy's of everything in the packet sent in, for your records if any problems -PLUS- store copys carefully as the copys make renewal paperwork so much more easy!

Don't hurt to mail packet Certified with Return Receipt. You know it got there and when.

Good Luck

I sent an e-mail to DPS just to make sure and here is the response, straight from the source:

"The new system does not affect you. What the online system is stating is that if you start the application online, you will need to finish the online portion before May 1st."

Only thing left in my packet now is the course. I can't wait!
