Could I have just messed up my new rifle?

I picked up a Remington 700 today, and some Burris Trumount Base (Remington 700 Long and Short) along with Burris Steel Rings Universal Dovetail 1" High Rings.

Anyways, I'm out in the garage and I screw in the base and it fit flawlessly. I then put the back ring on and tighten down the windage knobs on the base. It's tight and good to go. I put the front ring in the base (and it tells me to turn it 90 degrees) and I attempt to turn it. It won't budge. I immediately putt the front base off and check to see if there was something wrong with it. Not a thing. I tried to put the ring on the base while unattached from the rifle. No luck. I check the mating and it matches up.

So I put the base back on and plop the rick back in and give it a good try again...it moved a little. So I grab the screwdriver, wrap a glove around it, and used it as a sort of pry bar through the front ring. I didn't wail on it, but based on German Tourqing, I'd say 10 to 20lbs pressure. It finally made it the 90 degrees. It's in there! It won't move unless I use the pry bar approach.

I oiled it too and that didn't help.

Here's what they look like, in case I explained myself poorly.

Anyways, I am wondering if my tourqing could have done harm to the barrel or any other part of the rifle?
:tiphat:

I doubt it. Unless you were using the scope to torque the ring nothing should be harmed.

Your good. It does take some torque to turn those rings. There is a tool
that is made for installing them. you can also use a 1in pipe or dowel.

I'd vote for the dowel, no marring if you goof.
