Changed my primary carry....

Which I have done several times.

I started out around a year ago with a S&W M&P 9c....from there I moved up to the Springfield Armory XD .45ACP in a 4".

Now I have stepped over to a 4" 1911....specifically, a Kimber Custom Compact. I will always hold a special place in my heart for my XDs', but there is just something about the 1911 that feels....right. It is slimmer, and a bit more comfortable to carry; with that being said it allows me a little more flexibility on how I carry.

Also, with the magazines being slimmer, if I feel the need, it isn't such a pain to carry a backup mag.

Also, this thing is a nail driver....very accurate! I couldn't be happier.

This isn't my first 1911, but so far it's the first one I've kept.

I know just what you mean.
I started with a Taurus PT145, then switched to a XD40sc, now to a Kimber (as soon as I get it out of layaway).

I decided on a 1911 for the same reasons you did..slimmer gun, slimmer mags, ect...and it's just plain beautiful. ;-)

I also think that I could move from IWB to OWB with relatively no hassle at all with this pistol. That, IMO, would make drawing quite a bit easier, especially under duress (God forbid I ever have to test the theory).

I carry my 5" SA 1911 OWB in a Galco Combat Master Holster. Never have a problem. I usually just throw on a t-shirt and Im on my way...I also carry 2 spare mags on the other side in the mag holder that came with the gun.

I realize that it is silly...but I like my XD40 sub-compact just because it looks so business-like to me. I feel so superficial.

Heh, me too USA1. I bought a Taurus PT145 several years before I ever got my CHL, then bought a Springfield XDm .40 last spring thinking that would be my daily carry, and by the time I finally got my plastic a few months ago I had picked up a 4" Kimber Eclipse Pro II. To be honest I think I've carried the XDm maybe twice since getting my plastic, and that was only when I went to the range to shoot the Kimber. I didn't want to "reveal" my concealed carry piece at the range, so the XDm stayed in an IWB holster while I carried my Kimber 1911 into the range in a bag. I don't think I've even LOOKED at my PT145 since getting my plastic, but to be fair I'm waiting on a better holster for it from DM Bullard...supposedly he does work but his turnaround time is glacially slow. In general I don't have any problems concealing the Kimber in a SuperTuck IWB under a long untucked T-Shirt, and if anything my magazines on my weak side are more likely to print than the pistol.

I took a similar path - Baretta 92FS to Taurus PT145 to Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II and I love it. :fire

My next project after I get a .22 for target practice is to find a 4" 1911 preferably another Kimber.

After loads of research I got a Kimber Ultra CDP for my carry and am tickled pink. I added crimson trace grips. Can't go wrong with them.

I use the same kind of setup for my Hi-Power, using the Combat Master at 3:00-3:30. My spare mags are carried at around 8:00 in a double mag carrier. Not as slim as a 1911, but certainly a step up from modern double-stackers in that area. I keep it riding high (I don't sag my pants), but my shape doesn't quite lend to t-shirt carry. I carry with a work shirt or occasionally a 5.11 vest for cover.

I'm hoping to get a stainless steel-framed Colt Defender (not one of the modern-production Aluminum ones) one of these days for a slimmer main carry option without a change in manual-of-arms.

I also use a vest. I finally found one that I like from Bass Pro. I can carry my 1911 and my XD in their Blackhawk Serpas with it. Absolutely love it.

I've avoided vests, because to me they just scream, "concealed carry." Every time I see someone wearing one in public in the summer I just assume they're packing. It's just not my style. :-)
