Picked this up yesterday and I must say that I'm very impressed. I'm still new to revolvers and the trigger on this 686 is much better than my Taurus Tracker .44mag

I have a 686 with a 6" barrel that I bought new I think about 22 or 23 yrs ago not too long after they came out. I don't shoot revolvers much anymore but I'll never get rid of it. Smith revolvers do have better triggers than anything else except maybe a Colt Python that I know of. It will get even better after you use it for a while. Smith revolvers have a tension adjustment screw inside the grips on the front. The trigger will feel even better if you loosen it some but if it's too loose the hammer won't hit the primer hard enough and it will misfire. I squirted some Tetra lube inside mine and then worked the action for a while and that seemed to smooth it out some too.

Seeing how the Smith is at least 2x the cost, it better be nicer.

I would feel fine giving 2 times as much for a S&W 686 as a Taurus. You get what you pay for.

The new Smith grips are the best they have ever put on their guns.
My oppinion & most folks think it worth about what they pay for that too.

I would imagine that you will keep a revolver like that for the rest of your life, so if that is the case, the extra cost is not that big a deal. Excellent choice.

It was around $110 more than a stock 4" 686

The SSR also comes with some rubber grips, but I like the wood grips much better.

Yes sir. I figure this will perform double duties as my CHL instructor certification revolver and my IDPA SSR revolver when I get around to it.

I love the taper of the barrel. I have a 686 pre dash, no lock but its your typical looking 4" revolver. I love S&W's new supported barrel taper deal. Looks mean.

I bought some Pachmyers(spell check) for my 686, mostly so I wouldn't damage the wood grips, and I don't like the way they feel. My hand is not huge but they feel small.
