Ok,

I have not yet been able to find it anywhere, and folks know how I like to dig...

But I heard from two people today that they heard that Hillary Clinton just signed off on the U.N.'s gun ban plan today...

If anyone finds details I figure we can either post it here, or if it turns out to be false info, or a mistake on folks part, then we can kill this thread...

I figure the more eyes and ears we have getting out there, the quicker we'll know the truth...

All kidding aside, I kinda got the feeling this is all bunk...

Still, it seems odd that it's making the rounds again...

I got this in an email today, but upon inspection the article is from last October...

ETA: I just saw Charlie T's thread covering this same article...please disregard.

What Hillary signs off on is irrelevant. This is not a treaty which as the force of law in the U.S. It is merely an agreement to enter into discussions about the possibility of a treaty. Such a treaty with the U.S. would require a 2/3 majority approval by the Senate and a president's signature. The senate would not approve this treaty for a couple of reasons. One is that it would guarantee the loss of the majority party's future viability in American politics. They would become a pariah for signing away American sovereignty. Another reason is that the party most likely to attempt such foolishness — the democrats — also has a strong contingent of blue dogs who are pretty solid on gun rights. They would never support it. Another reason is that any conservative majority elected in the wake of such idiocy would almost immediately abrogate the treaty and force the nation to resign as a signatory to it.

In any case, voter backlash this year and in 2012 pretty much guarantee that this is a dead issue for now. At least, that's how I see it.

The email I got was also linked to the Reuters article from last October. Of course, it had the usual "updated" claptrap attached: "Look what Hillary did while we were distracted by the oil spill!..."

Seems like somebody was wanting to feel wanted again, and started up an old favorite. :waiting:
