The cop fired two rounds at the nutjob -- and missed! So he decided to tackle the guy.
The whole thing was captured on dash-cam -- but they aren't releasing it.

Wonder what we're missing here.... :headscratch

Well the guy had body armor on so who knows how much of an effect, if any, the two shots would have had.

The report said they missed. I would think if they actually hit his armor, it would have been reported that way. My understanding is that even the round hits the armor, you're likely knocked down and momentarily incapacitated. If he'd been hit in the armor, I suspect there wouldn't have been any reason to tackle the guy.

Watch the videos of the famous Band of America shootout in North Hollywood, California a few years ago. The bad guys were wearing armor, and they not only didn't get knocked down, they just kept right on trucking until a lucky bullet hit one in the leg and he bled out, and another lucky bullet severed the other guy's spinal cord at the same exact moment he blew his own brains out with a pistol. over 650 rounds were fired at them, and they were each hit by and penetrated by 10 rounds or more, including .223 rifle rounds.

I'm just sayin'...

I agree TAM. In addition I think he was on a suicide mission to take his girlfriend with him. Then suicide by cops....after he takes out as many people as he could.

A North Hollywood shootout wannabe.

He looked like an upstanding and honest citizen. Maybe he was just misunderstood.

Exactly... and until August, I used to frequent that one...and many others. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but shows that a simply quick trip to grab a soda can become much more. Body armor? Reason to practice head shots too.

Also, much body armor dosen't protect the sides of the torso, which, If possible, can also be targeted.
This goes to prove that you never know...... Stay aware!

Since Austin doesn't have any Allsup's stores, I always make it a point to visit one when I travel to Abilene to visit my folks -- Allsup's burritos... mmmmmmm.
Okay, they're just deep fried convenience store grub, but I DO have my vices.

And, I always pick up a couple cases of Mr. Pibb, since we don't have that down here either!

And now, thankfully, we have entered the era of plentiful patrol rifles.

That incident and the TX courthouse shootout spoke volumes of the necessity for carbines carried at the patrol level for active shooter scenarios. I guess there is a carry over to CHL and citizen carry in general, but unless we are talking long guns, or body armor shooting drills (chest chest head, pelvis) then merely carrying won't answer the threat.

And hip shots. If you can't reach a CNS point due to armor, thick skull (seen it), or other reasons shooting and breaking the hip joints will break the attackers ability to ambulate, buying you time.
