Checking my status ????

Can anyone give me some help on how to check the status of my application/approval process?? I see all of these people on this forum that have been able to regularly check their "status updates" to see how far along they are until they get their plastic. How do I get access to these updates??

Go to this link:

You should have a PIN issued by DPS via snail mail shortly if you don't already have it. Good luck, and try not to stare are your mailbox too much. It takes time, but its well worth it.

DPS actually changed the process a little as of May 1, so they no longer issue PINs. Go to this link, and click login:
https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/txapp/txdps/chl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; After you enter all of the requested info, it may or may not give you a status. If the only option it gives you is to apply for an instructor's license, that means you are in the system, but they haven't updated your status yet. It will probably take a couple of weeks before you'll see a status update.

KinArlington is correct. You'll just need to enter your DL, SSN and DOB. Mine will have been with DPS for 2 weeks tomorrow and I still don't have a status update.

Ok, so I followed the link, entered the information and here is what I got in red letters:
Error
* The system could not log you in. Please select Apply under the New Users section.
What gives?
PS- This wait is agonizing.

Make sure and double sure you entered your info correctly. Also if you didn't apply online it may take 2-3 weeks for the site to update and show a status.

That's most likely what's going on.
TXBassGuide, according the dates you provided below, your app is probably not in their system yet.
Keep checking daily and pretty soon you should be able to view your status.
5/22/2010 - Course
6/07/2010 - App mailed
6/08/2010 - App received

And remember, there's no such thing as checking too often. I've checked at least 4 times today because I'm expecting a status update either today or tomorrow.

Woops. I'm a little out of the loop apparently. I knew they changed a few things but I was under the impression that they still issued a PIN.

On a separate but somewhat related note, what is going to be the process-time difference between having mailed my fingerprints in on the standard fingerprint cards in the app package vs. using the FAST system that I've heard some people mention? Is the FAST fingerprinting system going to allow my app to be processed...well...faster? Or is there really no difference?
Any input would be appreciated.

Shouldn't be much. I asked the lady that did my FAST prints and she said it took about 5 days for DPS to get them.

My wife is going on three weeks since they received her app and there is still nothing in the system.
It is nice to not have to wait for a PIN, I guess, but this seems kind of like a huge step backwards from when you could at least find out whether or not your app got put into the system a few days after mailing it in, to now where you are left wondering if it fell behind someone's desk never to be seen again.

That's what's making the wait hard. You don't know if everything made it there in one piece or not. I'm not sure if I can wait another week for status

Right now it is the world's slowest race between DPS and Crossbreed. Each one trying to outdo the other one slowness and lack of communication. It is kind of a harsh juxtaposition from my experiences last December with DPS and Comp-tac, even with the holidays mixed in.

I actually "ran" that race in April
I applied to DPS March 26
they received March 29 (if memory is right)
I ordered my Minituck on March 29 and the holster came in about 3 days before my plastic. 31 days for Crossbreed, 34 days for DPS
