So I shot the XDm-45

On Friday, June 11, I drove to Lubbock and hit the Patriot Firearms indoor range. For a hair under $62 for range fee, gun rental, and range ammo I rented and shot the Springfield armory XDm-45. It completely tore up the center of the target, continued to function when limp wristed as part of my effort to make the gun malfunction. I shoot this gun better than my XDm-40, and I actually like it slightly better although the back strap that was installed on the gun was a little large for my taste. Once I can get stuff to quit breaking down and get my new PC built I will be buying one of these with night sights, installing a Don's guide rod, and shooting the heck out of it.

G.A. Heath:
Thanks for a few words about the hot new gun.
Please enlighten us about what a "Don's guide rod" will do
to the functionality of the XDM 45.

Regarding functionality, nothing.
The stock guide rod on the XDm is hollow and Don's guide rod is a solid piece and weighs about 2oz more.

Regarding the guide rod: In my opinion it improved the balance on my XDm-40 and my former XD-40. You would be amazed at how much of a difference that 2 ounces can make. Some people claim it improves the felt recoil but I hardly notice that in the first place, however my buddy who dealt me back out of my XD swears that it lets him get back onto target faster and reduces the recoil.

Yep. We met at the last Texas CHL forum day. I went to high school in Plano.
