The part number to this gun is PX9115LP

Does anyone here have one? If so, I have a couple of questions for you.

Don't have one but that model is pretty high on my list. I don't know if there's a better looking 1911 out there (maybe the STI Ranger II). I'm waiting til 2011 to get my next 1911 though. Kind of a commerative.

Well, I just recently got the PX9104LP which is the loaded light weight LP Bi tone. Really like it. Glad I got it. What questions are you looking to get answered?

I'm not a fount of knowledge on 1911's, so here goes:

The question is about disassembly. My Kimber Custom Compact, for example, disassmebles very easily. Lock the slide back, use a paper clip to slip into the hole on the guide rod, ease the slide into position to remove the slide stop, once the slide stop is out remove the slide from the frame, then extract the guide rod along with the barrel and it's ready for cleaning.

The Springfield 1911 in question (PX9115LP) is something i'm considering picking up, but I was wondering if disassembly is the same process. I once had a Springfield full size 5" Loaded model, and disassembly was a pain. Barrel bushings, tools, etc etc.

So the question is, will the Lightweight Champion Operator disassemble in the same fashion as my Kimber Custom Compact?

You should see near the bottom, 1911 manual. Download that file, and the instruction is on page 41.

I am used to the GI setup, so this takes a bit of getting used to. In fact, it is a pain for me because it is relatively new and not fully broken in yet. But I have to say, for a gun this size, it is easy to shoot and control. I was comparing it to the STI Ranger II also in the beginning and went with the champion operator. You will love the gun.

Man that's a beautiful gun; I want one badly, but at the same time, I don't know that I could bring myself to carry it daily for fear of messing up the finish.

It's one of the few SA 1911's that come with the Black Armory Kote.....from what they said at the Customer Service line, that is generally only on Custom Shop guns. The Black Armory Kote, they say, will resist the sweat.

Funny finding this post here when searching for how to disassemble a Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion Operator. NTexas_V-Star is a buddy of mine and I forgot he had one of these. Found what I needed here, downloaded the manual and got the answer I was looking for. Didn't get the tool with the gun so I'll probably call Springfield Amory on Monday but otherwise the instructions gave me an alternative method. Just got back from the range and I'm very happy with the accuracy and reliability of this gun.

I just saw this, sorry for the delay. I have a LW Champ Oper and it takes a little half round clip that would be used to do the same thing as the paper clip for a Kimber, but Springer didn't drill a hole in the guide rod.

Mine also didn't have the clip in the box when I bought it- I called SA and they sent one right out at no charge.
