NOT!
More than half of the 18 shootings over a 24-hour period this weekend involved gangs,...

This weekend was the
Puertorriqueños turn to go nuts.
One of Chicago's better-kept dirty secrets is that it is one of the most segregated cities in the world. It's not just a black-white divide. The Mexicans and Puerto Ricans have their own neighborhoods. The Vietnamese, Koreans, Chinese from Hong Kong and Chinese from mainland China have their own neighborhoods. Even groups like the Roman Catholic Ukranians and Eastern Orthodox Ukranians don't get along very well.

Since Chicago has tough gun laws, this story
must obviously be considered in the "fiction" genre. :-)

Did you see the other headline “Chicago police report citizen complaints down”?
They are probably just trying to
stay out of the line of fire.

If the cops don't show up for live-fire incidents and can't catch the criminals afterward, why call them? It just brings attention to the caller. Many of the people who live in the affected neighborhoods already have some kind of legal problem, and most have had unhappy experiences with the cops.

Just joking a little bit Seamus.

The "gun ban" doesn't seem to be helping the police very much, does it?

Shaking the dust from one's feet refers to utter rejection of a place.
I misremembered sandals instead of feet.
I was born and spent half my life in Chicago. I no longer have any use for them, and they have no use for me. Adios, and don't wait up for me.

VOR, it comes from Matthew 10:14: "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town."
In some translations, the word "sandals" appears in place of "feet." But the Bible is where that reference comes from.

Rahm Emmanuel has taken over as mayor of Chicago, and Richard M. Daley is retired. Police Superintendent Jody Weiss also decamped and has been replaced by an acting superintendent.
Despite the McDonald decision, gun laws in Chicago have not yet changed substantially.
In the past few days, several violent incidents occurred where mobs of "teen" males assaulted and robbed people in an area that is frequented by tourists and generally free of this kind of crime. The area is the near North Side and the beaches in that area.
Some of the victims were foreign tourists, which will do wonders for the city's international reputation.
Some suspects who have been arrested apparently used the excellent subway system to travel from their homes on the South Side.

The good news is that no weapons were involved. The "suspects" used good old brute force.

At a father's day celebration in a park on the South Side of Chicago today, a man started firing a 9-mm pistol into the air, apparently in the general spirit of celebration and hilarity.
When the cops showed up, he started shooting at the cops. The cops returned fire and put him into critical condition.
No real motive is known.
