Question for the Glock experts out there

My wife has a G19 and I just acquired a G23. Same size frame, different caliber. If I cannot get used to the finger grooves, and send my frame off to have them removed, could I put my slide(23), etc. on her frame(19) and use my mags so that I can still carry a .40SW Glock? Or would/could that in any way harm either her 19's frame or my 23's slide, etc.?

Also, have any of you had any frame modifications to your Glock(s), specifically having the 3rg generation finger grooves removed?

Thanks for your help, guys!

Many would probably not consider me an expert, but since I carry the G23 as my primary carry firearm, I feel very comfortable with many of the stock features of that weapon...

My recomendation would be to not send the frame off to Glock, because more than likely they will not (or even be able to) modify it to your liking...Thats not a personal jibe at all, its just a gut feeling I have to what I would think they would, or would not, do to one of their products...

I'm not saying you couldn't get someone to do it, I have just never heard of anyone wanting to make this particular type of modification to a major component of a Glock before...

I have installed the grip (magazine) extentions on my magazines I use for concealed carry, and have found that when I shoot right handed (I am ambidexterous) I find my right little finger not using the extensions, rather my wrap around grip with my left hand, the little finger fits nicely into a good solid grip package that afford "me" the best presentation (and control) of that weapon to the target...

I don't even notice the prefab'd grooves available on the latest gen's of the Glocks now...

I would recommend you shoot a lot on that frame and see how it feels to you after a couple of cases (2K) of ammunition...

Even the firearms I have shot that I just downright hated right off the bat, I learned to be comfortable with after a while...And I didn't make any major mods like what you're talking about...

I mean I'm not knocking what you want to do, but if you're going to do it, I imagine you could take a Dremel tool and gradually grind those peaks of the handle down and then fine tune the feel with some fine grained sandpaper...Its just a polymer base, and it should "not" gum up a tool or paper that much...And if you don't have a Dremel tool, I figure a course hand file should take a lot of the material off...

I'd make sure I had a vice to hold the handle in to do this work...And of course break the firearm down, and try to keep the cast-off material out of the lower mechanism as much as possible...And maybe blow it out with some good compressed air before you try to reassemble and test fire it...

Good luck...

I know of people who have the finger grooves removed. They seem to like it.

I'd still be afraid I'd screw it up...Typical me I suppose...

Stevie,

I'd be afraid I would screw it up, too.

I've seen pictures on the 'net of 3rd Gen. Glocks with the finger grooves removed and stippling applied in their place. I'm not yet sure I want to have this done, but I want to know what options I might have if/when I do decide to.

Any one care to chime in on swapping slides between the two frames?

Sorry I can't help as to the frame swapping. Try searching over at Glock Talk for the answer.

How long have you had the G23? How much have you shot the gun? It took me a lot of practice to get used to the Glock. I prefer the 1911, but carry a G19 because I can shot it much more with cheap 9mm.

As far as grip reduction, if that is what you really want, Robar does them. Personally I think it's the only way to make a Glock uglier. http://www.robarguns.com/glock.htm

MAN  somebody beat that baby with an ugly stick! They must have sat in the shop and thought of ways to make that thing uglier!

Can the grip be reformed? Yes Should the grip be reformed? No, in my opinion. I would think you could find one w/o finger grooves if you wanted. I carry the G23 daily and like the finger grooves, but my hands are smaller than some too.
This is all my opinion so it is worth what you paid [abbreviated profanity deleted] it.

Your 19 probably has a 2-pin frame and your 23 will probably have a 3 pin frame. Glock has the additional pins in larger calibers to more securely anchor the Locking Block under the stress of a heavier caliber.

Both the 23 and the 19 are 1.18 in. wide. If the 23's slide would fit on the 19's frame, you would, now, have problems with the extractor on the 23's slide trying to grab on to a 9mm round. Also, thr 19's ejector (frame-mounted) is tuned for a 9mm round. If you're trying to fire .40 S&W through it, I can guarantee problems for you.

There are other potential engineering glitches for a cross-caliber-slide swap, but these are the most glaring. Hope this helps

I knew I forgot something...I think you nailed it though...

I wouldn't do this...

"nuparadigm" summed it up very well...

I'm not talking about firing 9mm through a .40 slide or vice versa. I'm talking about taking the entire slide assebly off of a G23 and putting it on a G19 frame and using G23 mags to fire .40 rounds. I'm not just talking about swapping barrels.

And both the G19 and the G23 have the three pin frames, in this case.

I am actually not considering getting any stippling done to my Glock. I just used that as an example of the pics I have seen on the 'net. I'm also not yet ready to say I want anything done to it. I just got it a few days ago, so I may get used to the finger grooves. I just want to know what my options might be if I decide to have the bumps that create the finger grooves removed.

I love the look of Glocks. However, the grip on this particular Glock looks like it was made out of milk chocolate........or dog poop.

Assuming the 23 slide assembly will fit on the 19's frame, the ejector problem still exists. Your 19's frame has a 9mm ejector in it and you want to eject .40 S&W. As long as your 19 has a 3-pin Locking Block, that is not different from the 23's 3-pin Locking Block. The 19 and the 23 have the same Trigger & Trigger Bar.

Another consideration: would the .40 S&W magazines fit into your 19's magwell?
