I just about fired several years ago for stating basically the same thing in a meeting.

They had called a meeting to discuss ways to improve the company's output. One of the owners refused to accept any of the ideas put forth and abruptly announced that we all needed to work harder. "Twice as hard..if thats what it takes" is what he said.

I suggested to him that we try working "smarter" instead of just harder, and pointed out: "that working twice as hard at being inefficient would only result in inefficiency to the second power". My gosh, you could have heard a pin drop.

Anyway, the former family owned business is now in the hands of new owners who heartily agree that if something isn't working, change it! Its pretty simple really.

I don't think the gun bans in the UK and Australia are working out that great for them. Time for them to roll up their sleeves and work harder at it I suppose.

There are 18 pages and dozens of stories in that section, all dealing with knife violence in Scotland since early 2002.
Last I checked, there was no corresponding "gun culture" section in the Houston Chronicle.

Truly amazing stats.....

I've heard (don't know how accurate this is) that in the UK only solved crimes are reported in their official crime statistics, and that they actually solve only a fraction of the actual crimes (reportedly somewhere between 20% and 50% are solved).

Again, I don't know that this is the case, but it appears to be based on some of the stories I've read concerning the lack of reliability of the official numbers. If it is true, then the problem is far worse than this story makes it appear.

Think everyone has see the stats on Australia since their no gun statues passed....crime has sky rocketed!!! Seems only the BGs have any weapons and they seem to be doing good business ....doh!
