Carry in tent at state park by someone w/o a CHL?

We're going camping in a few weeks with another couple. We'll be heading to a state park, not sure which one yet. I will obviously carry. My good friend (currently in the academy to be a LEO) wants to tote his Glock along to keep in the tent with him at night. He does NOT have his CHL yet. We're trying to figure out if it's legal?
Does his tent become his "castle" for the evening? I'm not too sure on this and would appreciate all the help you can offer. Thanks.

I assume you all have CHLs. If you check this forum there have been previous posts on carrying in state parks. It is legal as I understand it. There is a copy of a memo from the TPWD director to his personnel advising that CHL carry is legal. There is an issue of some state parks being leased from the Federal Government and the Federal restrictions on Firearms. You might want to verify that the park you are going to is on state owned property.

If you're sharing a large tent, you can be carrying it for him.

No. PC 46.15, which allows you to have a handgun on your premises, says:
"recreational vehicle" means a motor vehicle primarily designed as temporary living quarters or a vehicle that contains temporary living quarters and is designed to be towed by a motor vehicle. The term includes a travel trailer, camping trailer, truck camper, motor home, and horse trailer with living quarters.
The best solution is probably to bring a shotgun, if the park regulations allow that.
The chance of getting caught is very small, but since he is trying to become a LEO, the last thing he needs is an arrest record.

He should ask his academy instructors, I would think.
