Unorthodox Grip - Good/Bad?

I've a right handed woman friend who shoots her Glock with her supporting hand gripping her wrist, rather than up on the other side of the gun.

I demonstrated the orthodox two handed shooting grip, but she doesn't care for it.

With her unorthodox grip she shoots accurately.

Are there any reasons her grip is not sound?

Thanks

Unless she feels she must adhere to the laws and ethics canonized in the Talmudic texts, then the unorthodox grip should be fine. :biggrinjester:

Seriously, I have seen people shoot this way that have a weak or injured wrist and do well with it. The whole purpose of using the other hand is to stabilize the shooting hand. If it works well for her and is not unsafe, then IMO there should be no problem with her shooting using that method.

She is probably doing it because: a) the gun is heavy; b) the recoil is enough to flex the wrist excessively; or 3) she has not been shown a better method. Ask her why she is doing it, find out, and suggest alternatives to try. If heavy, cupping the hand under the magazine well with fingers over her grip fingers will help (as will correcting the stance if she is leaning back). If recoil is 'snappy' - then an overgrip (weak hand fingers wrapped over strong with weak thumb pointing forward (not up behind the slide) over top of fingers is best. However, some of the double stack Glocks are brick sized and small hands just cannot overgrip. If the suggestions are not going to work for her - let her shoot the way she wants to and be grateful for that.

Cornered Cat has an entry about holding a gun like that. These might be helpful.

If it works for her, there's nothing wrong with it. Be very glad that she's shooting!
