I'm thinking about sending my P226 to Sig for the Sig Service Plan. It includes a thorough cleaning and inspection and the replacement of all springs. It also includes SIGLITE Night Sights. The cost is $129.95 + $55.95 for shipping. Is it worth it? Has anyone done it? If so, were you happy with the results? Are SIGLITE Night Sights any good? Are they just a rebranded Meprolite or something similar?

Get the Sig rear night sights and the TruGlow fiber optic Tritium front sight (can be found on the Equinox, SCT, and Blackwater Tactical models) they came on my 229 SCT and they are by far the best combat sights I've ever used.

I did and have no regrets.

Understand though, that mine was a 228. That model has been discontinued. I also added the short trigger reset and the shorter trigger. Its a hoot to shoot.

what's the deal of $55.95 for shipping? Is that something that Sig stated? I can get my ffl to send the gun US Mail for about 10 bucks. Is Sig charging the $55.95 for return shipping?

I missed out on the offer from Sig a couple of years ago for my P239.

Unless you have put thousands of rounds through the pistol - it seems quite high. You could probably take it to a reputable gunsmith that is familiar with Sigs and have the weapon cleaned, and night-sighted for far less than $185.

Part of the problem is that I don't know how many rounds have gone through the gun. I bought it used at a pawn shop. I know I've shot about 500 rounds through it, but it was manufactured in 1988. Hard to say how many rounds have gone through it.

The cost of the night sights and the spring kit is $126. Then you have to add labor to that. Then you have to balance having the gun worked on by a gunsmith who might be reluctant to replace the gun if it gets screwed up versus the factory, which has to stand behind its work. Unless the labor for the gunsmith is less than $30, it seems to me that the price including shipping is reasonable.

The shipping isn't really that bad if it is in fact "round trip".

And, it was my understanding a couple of years ago that the service fee included a complete inspection and replacement of all springs as well as other minor "wear parts" such as extractors, pins, etc. Considering that the sights are $80-90, and additional $40-50 for sight installation, complete detail cleaning, replacement of all springs (and other minor parts if needed) sounds like a pretty good deal.

I didn't know it was a 22 yo gun. I would definitely send it in. At that age that maintenance is almost like a reconditioning of sorts.

I heard Night Sights quoted from $100 to $250 depending on brand and whether or not they were adjustable.

The Sig Service Plan is looking pretty good.

I tend to agree. SigArms will have the most experience with your Sig, have the correct parts and trained people. For the same reason, I usually have my Honda serviced by a Honda dealer, even though it will probably cost more.
