Cost for a box of CCI .22 LR Stinger at Walmart: $5.47, but the plain CCI .22 LR cost $6.47.

I thought (perhaps mistakenly...) that stingers provide more punch than the standard issue LR's, thus would be the ones to cost more.

Any ideas as to why the lower power ammo cost more?

I don't know the answer to your question, but .22 shorts cost more than either one. What's up with that?

The demand for .22 Shorts is very small compared to .22LR.

Usually I see Stingers in 50 round boxes and CCI Mini-Mags in 100 round boxes.

At this point: No, but I didn't notice if the .22 LR's came in a 50 or 100 round box.

Next time I go to Walmart I'll pay closer attention.

Perhaps the answer to my question will be answered by me paying more attention to the box round count...

Our local Walmarts typically sell two types of CCI High Velocity ammo in 100 round packs. One is a 40 grain solid and the other is a 36 grain hollowpoint. Both have been going for $6.47 per box.

I understand (from an Appleseed instructor) that CCI also makes a "standard" velocity round that is somewhat more accurate in many rifles.

I have tried the Stingers in various guns and have not found them to be particulary accurate - possibly due to turbulence of substantially exceeding the sound barrier initially, then falling back thru it at greater distances.

For the money, the Aguila stuff is a better deal if you're looking for high-velocity 22LR. I've never had a hiccup with the Aguila ammo, it seems to be high-quality stuff.

I couldn't find any 500rnd packs of mini mags.

Nonetheless, the Aguila is a bit easier on the wallet while running reliably and consistently. Then again, you won't find it at Wal-Mart.

For subsonic ammo, I buy the CCI 40grn Standard Velocity, which runs around $25/500rd box (if I recall correctly), but the only place I know of in Austin that carries it is Dick's Sporting Goods. It's superb ammo, and I've never had a failure to ignite with any CCI round.

If minimags are $6.47 for 100 that's $32.35 for 500 rounds. That's more expensive than the 500 round bulk packs for $15 to $20 but minimags run much better for me. The golden bullets and other bulk packs give me a couple FTF and FTE per box. I can't remember the last time I had a CCI that didn't go bang.
