KHOU is clueless

Gun totin grandma spends the night in jail for firing her gun in the air to scare horses out of her yard. The story is all well and good til you get to the part about she didn't have a " permit" for the gun so HPD confiscated it. I just can't keep up with all these new laws. Now I have to find out if all I need is one permit or do I need one for every gun I own. I won't minimize the seriousness of what she did but at 89 years old, seems like some common sense could have kept her from spending the night in jail. 89 is a little old for that.

Her family said she did not have a permit for the gun, which police confiscated.

Can you people wrap your heads around what
attribution means?
I also wonder exactly what the police are supposed to do when someone shoots into the air and a bullet goes through the roof of an uninvolved party. Do great-grandmothers get a pass that drunk rednecks don't?

I don't completely disagree and I guess since she survived the night in jail maybe she learned what she needed to. They took her gun so I doubt she was gonna do it again. I don't claim to know what HPDs options were but if a judge could have made it work out differently, someone should have had the snap to make that happen. At 89 she is already past her life expectancy. Or is age never a consideration no matter what? What if she were 99 or 109?

I bet drunk rednecks get away with it a lot. Maybe there should be some slack, kinda like if she had been a cops mother or grandmother.

I think the main point of the post (hence its title) was the fact that KHOU thinks you need a "permit" to own a gun. Nobody has addressed that yet.

Yeah, I got that, not exactly sure what seamus was saying.

KHOU is really the only one that could respond. If HPD had found 2 or 3 guns in her house KHOU would have got all tingly and started throwing that arsenal word around.

I'm not blind to the fact that the lady is 89 years old, but the principle of equal justice under law does not allow for special treatment on the basis of age or number of grandchildren. The police have to let the situation go, arrest and charge the woman with a crime, or refer her for a mental-health workup.

If justice really were equal I could go for that. Still depends on who you are and who you know.

I guess to me it would depend on how she was treated in jail. If she were treated like a young person, that's just wrong, I don't care what anybody says. I have no reason to think she wasn't handled in a way that an 89 yr old should be. KHOU on the other hand needs to move to San Francisco where people like them live.

Hopefully her family will buy her a bullwhip now. That may scare horses without collateral damage, and no law against it in the city limits

My experience with horses is that opening an umbrella or flapping a plastic trash bag is more then enough to send them running.

Houston famously (or notoriously) has no zoning.

I can see getting ticketed/booked/conviscation of the weapon for discharging in city limits, but to conviscate it for not having a permit on your own property. That stinks, that is more to do with the libs taking over Houston.
