This is what I came up with to secure the ccw in the truck when I must leave it in the vehicle, it works well. The poor pictures are from my iphone.

Wow. That is nifty. How much does that set you back?

The gun vault (http://www.gunvault.com/handgun-safes/m ... eluxe.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) was only $99.00 on sale at academy (a year ago) and the bracket and installation was me, so it was very cheap and the ccw is very secure. I really like it.

Thanks. I actually got the idea from a cop friend of my daughter who had this setup in her truck.

Great idea,Pops. You could add a little more security to the whole unit by using carriage bolts and the nuts underneath the truck. :thumbs2:

Thanks J Wilson, what we did for security was use mess up the threads on the bolts after installation meaning that if they dont cut the bolts and they try to unbolt them someone will have to hold a backup underneath and if they want it that bad they can have it. Just keeping honest people honest and away from kids.

How is it bolted in. It almost looks like you'd have to drop the transmission to get in there.

I love how it will make for very quick access.
Not so thrilled about it's visibility. I supposed that if you throw a towel or a jacket over it when you're out of the vehicle, it's just an indistinguishable lump, although a large one.
I guess I'm still looking for that elusive lock box that would have the gun in my hand in a split second yet be absolutely invisible, at least from outside the vehicle.

I don't think ANY locked device would give you split second access, but this is what I use, when i have to leave the weapon in the car.
However, for instant access, when I am in the car, it is on my hip, or in my armrest.
I have 2 of these, 2 in each car.

1 finger swipe, takes a second to open and only a couple seconds to get it out from under the seat.

Yeah, the visibility is a drawback but I feel that was overcome by the mentioned quick accessibility to the weapon and the reasonable level of security. I do generally throw something over it but even if they see it surely they will note how secure it is and pick an easier victim. I had one of the boxes attached with a cable under the seat but that was a real pain dragging it out, unlocking, putting the weapon in and stuffing back under the seat just to repeat the steps in reverse when returning to the vehicle. And, all of this movement, leaning over to get the box out and put it back, is very noticeable to anyone looking your way. With this just use the finger pad to pop open and put weapon in, close and go on your way. Really fast.
