FTF problem with JHP Gold Dots

Yesterday I got my Sig P226 back from Sig Sauer. I sent it to them to perform the Sig Service Plan (clean, inspect, replace springs, test and install night sights.) So today I went to the Bullet Trap with a friend this afternoon to try it out. The first thing I noticed is that my groupings were much better than they used to be. I see the front sight much better, and almost every shot was within the 10 ring on a B27 target.

I ran into a problem though. On the original Sig magazine that came with the gun, FMJ fed fine, but JHP Gold Dots didn't feed correctly. The bullets failed to go up the feed ramp and into the chamber. Instead they stayed level coming out of the magazine and jammed below the chamber. They jammed so hard I couldn't get the magazine out, and I had to pry the bullet out with a key. Once I did that, I could get the magazine out. I tested the magazine with a second load, but it did the same thing. Then I loaded the magazine with five JHP Gold Dots and ten FMJ above them. The FMJ fed and fired fine. The first two Gold Dots did as well, but the third one jammed again.

The other two magazines, that are very new, both handled both FMJ and Gold Dots just fine.

So do I have a weak spring in the older magazine? Or do I need to pay attention to the feed ramp?

First suggestion would be to double check that the spring is installed correctly, I actually had one on mine backwards and it caused similar problems. Then try swapping springs with one of your other mags, if the issue follows you will know what the issue is.

Good idea. Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is the first time that I've shot JHP through the gun, so I don't know if this problem existed before. That magazine went back with the gun to Sig, so that makes me wonder if something happened to it there....
