My Uncle Tom pass this morning....

That's a picture of Tom taken at my mother's house in Malibu about 5 or 6 years ago. He was just then beginning to really show signs of the Alzheimers which finally took his life this morning. In his prime, he had a great mind. He was a brilliant photographer, which is how he earned his living. During WW2, the War Department would not allow him to serve in a combat capacity, so he worked at the Lockheed Skunk Works, where he pioneered the use of photographic techniques to create templates for aircraft parts. After the war, he worked at Vandenberg AFB, where he was involved in the processing and printing of the film recovered from the Aurora project spy satellites. Tom owned a photography studio, Images, in Santa Maria California, where he lived out the rest of his life.
He is survived by his wife Meg - a former studio starlet during the '40s; his sons Tom and Bryn, and their children.
Uncle Tom was a very sweet and quiet man with a ready smile. He will be missed.
Edited to update the picture with a higher quality one.

Sorry for your loss TAM.
It sounds like he was a great man and a great American and you will always have wonderful memories of him.
Alzheimers is a terrible thing for a family to deal with. He is in a better place now I'm sure.

TAM,
i'm sorry for the loss of your Uncle Tom. Grief is the price we pay for love. It is only know after they are gone that we begin to feel the price of being able to share in their life. You and you family will be in my prayers.

TAM, thank you for sharing about your Uncle Tom. I'm sorry for your loss. May you and his family be comforted in this time of grief. Your Uncle Tom reminds me of my Uncle Tom in his 80's for whom I am his closest relative.

Very sorry for your loss TAM. I'm sure he will be greatly missed. And, as a professional photographer I can appreciate the craft he followed as it is, as with many crafts these days, a disappearing art.

We're sorry to hear about your loss, TAM, and be sure you're in our thoughts.
Interesting coincidence: Following up on a promise, last Thursday I showed my Physics class a clip of a canister air retrieval from 1961 (just a training flight, I suspect). They were
more than impressed about the film and the "return shipping!"
