Ok I just got my chl in the mail today, my question is though that I updated my address on my drivers license and they issued me a temporary paper license. Can I still carry?

I did.

I renewed my DL shortly after I applied for my CHL. The lady at DPS cut the top off of my (unexpired) DL, so I was still carrying the paper license when my CHL arrived.

One really has very little to do with the other.

Looking at 46.02 and 46.15, I can't find any reason you couldn't carry.

Does the CHL have your NEW address or the old one? If the old one, then you need to make sure to get a change of address for it also.

My CHL has my new address that is on my new temporary license.

If you've ever renewed a TXDL, you should know they give you a printed receipt with no photo. That is used as your DL until the replacement comes in the mail... up to 6 weeks later.

Pawpaw, They now include your photo on your temporary. I just wanted to be sure that I don't get in trouble. What is the punishment if by chance you didn't have the correct address?

When did they start that? I just renewed my DL (Got the replacement in mid-July) and my temp didn't have a photo. That's why the DPS worker cut the top off of my old license and gave me the bottom part, with the photo, back.

As long as you have changed your address, it will show up in the DPS computer. IMHO, an officer is going to care more about that than what is printed on your plastic.

I had to get a new licence recently to replace the one in my wallet when I lost it and it did have a pic on the temp lic, I was suprised to say the least but I'm supprised it took em this long to empliment this little addition.

I think it would have to take a real "piece" of work as a cop to give you a hard time over the address being different if you were to just explain the situation to him/her as long as you're honest.

I got mine in late June- early July.

I just got mine in july, but it was a replacement for a lost license. Maybe they include a pic since you do not have another picture id like you would when they cut the top of your old license.
