Sounds like a case of suicide by cop. I am glad that no one else was injured.

Don't you know? Open carry is more important than Campus Carry.
From the news sounds like no one but the shooter got hurt. Thank the Lord.

Wow, this is eerily similar to the Tyler courthouse shooting in that the shooter used a semi-auto military-style rifle and was wearing body armor.

Thankfully it does not appear a CHL hero was killed trying to stop this madman today.
There would have to be a lot of "gut checking" before a CHLee would decide to confront an "active shooter" with only their CC handgun, especially knowing the possibility the bad guy is wearing armor.
Practice headshots and Mozambique drills in addition to COM shooting.
Really glad that it appears at this point that only the shooter was killed. Was this perhaps a suicide-by-cop?
EDITED TO ADD: context for my above comments about "CHL hero" who isn't really mentioned in the YouTube video above ....

Setting a pick-up truck on fire outside of a police station, waiting with a semi-automatic rifle. I don't see any other outcome for the perp.

No we need to totally do away with all restrictions on carry where schools are involved. This particular event was a college but the next may be an elementary school or Friday night football game. Doing away with all restrictions on schools will cover them all and not leave the majority of students vulnerable. We know shooters don't want to face opposition so only allowing CHL at colleges and universities will simply move the threat to those schools where carry is restricted. If by "campus carry bill" you include all schools I agree.
I pray for all those involved.
And it was not "open carry" that killed the campus carry bill. It was Senator Robert Duncan sucking up to big money interest and the Texas Democrats blocking movement on bills for their own selfish political gain.

It's interesting that this was at the police station, not the college. That building is just north of the campus. According to the early reports I saw, the shooter was assumed to be on campus.
This freaks me out more than a little...my home is less than 1.5 miles from that location. This is also fairly close to the new "Cheaper Than Dirt Guns!" retail outlet.

Wearing a bullet-proof vest?

It didn't work, did it?

This is why I keep a "Trunk Gun" as well.

Word from a friend on scene was that he set the truck on fire as a diversion, hid in the woods either near or on the campus and waited for firefighters to get there before he started opening fire.
It all just went down hill from there.
I'm still waiting to get some more details as to what actually happened that won't make it in the news.

Even better would be to do away with all restrictions on licensed carry, period.

The F150 was pulling a trailer that had some subtance loaded in it. The burning truck had lots of rounds in it that cooked off. As the leo's came out of the building he started firing at them. They took up a defensive position and returned fire. They are not sure yet if the shooter was killed by police or took his own life. More at a 4 PM News conference.
Just FYI.....Plano Police posted officers at all City Facilities, just in case, while this was going down.

It will require legislation (in the form of a bill) in order to make any changes to the existing law. I agree the changes should apply to all schools, not just colleges and universities (although I'd be happy with that as a start). Technically "campus" just means the grounds of a university, college, or school. Even an elementary school could be considered a campus. Therefore I stand by my statement that we need a campus carry bill.
