White T Shirts

Hello All,

My 1st post here. Just discovered this forum a couple of days ago. I'm a 40ish y-o man been CCing since the law passed.

When carrying OWB I've always avoided wearing white t shirts thinking the dark gun and holster may show through in bright light. Has anyone found this to be true or am I just overly paranoid?

Joey

Welcome to the forum!!

I would say that if you're talking about a standard white undershirt, you may be able to see through it.

If you are talking about a standard (i.e. thicker) t shirt, you should be okay to carry.

Look in the mirror in sunlight. You will get a good shot of your weapon/holster. I usually use this technique on any shirts that I think may be too thin or light.

If tucked in, they might it's a bit odd and might think so.
If untucked, they'll just think it's a cell phone.

Non CHL's will not be "looking" for stuff like this because they don't know what to "look" for. Chill and carry away.

Heavier materials will not show through. Printing might happen. I wear larger t-shirts from J C Penny with my Milt Sparks and never have an issue.

Like drjoker stated most of the time people will think it's something else. Very few people think gun even if they see it.

I still give myself a "mirror check" before carrying with a new shirt. I have a couple of t-shirts that are a little on the thin side, and fit a little too snugly. They clearly show the outline of a pistol underneath. I agree that an anonymous "lump" is okay under a shirt, but when you can almost tell the make and model of the handgun...you need to change shirts. ;-)

I also usually go through some motions...reaching up, squatting down, etc., so I know how it looks once I'm out in public, and if I need to avoid certain motions.

I've had good luck with the "Longtail Tees" from Duluth Trading Company (http://j.mp/bFS5VP). They're beefy cotton and cut extra long. I can easily conceal a commander-sized 1911 and two spare magazines under one of them.
