Springfield hi-cap 1911

Got to check out the new Springfield hi-cap 1911 at the last Market Hall Gun Show. I've often thought of switching to a double stack, but the price of a scarcity of Para and STI have definitely been prohibitive. I came across this Springfield and picked up and it felt pretty good the only thing is that Springfield only makes them in the G.I. model with Parkerized finish. I'm a freak for stainless steel. Any one heard any rumors of them coming out with a stainless model? One question that I do have about the hi-cap 1911's is this, I noticed that the mainspring housing looks to be the same width and thickness as a single stack. Does anyone know if a bobtail job could be done on one? I currently carry a Colt Officers' with slim line grips OWB and think that I go full size hi-cap that the extra length would print like a neon sign. I've checked out a bobtail before and it printed less than my Officers' due to the roundness. I don't think that the grip is really thicker than standard single stack grips as the ones that they had on it were very thin. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
