I have done the online application and will be taking class in 6 days but was just told that a felony arrest that was pled and convicted as a misdemeanor will prevent me from rercieving my chl. i have a total of 3 misdemeanors all dating from 1983 to 1989 . i went to county clerk and got my records to show they are all misd. but a coworker believes i will be unable to recieve my chl. i have my pin# and packet is on way but i now believe i have wasted both time and money. any help ya'll could give me would be helpful thanks

IANAL, but...

IANAL, but I don't see how a felony arrest would keep you from getting your CHL. If I'm not mistaken, they are looking at felony convictions, not arrests.

If the case was disposed of as a misdemeanor from 17 years or more ago, I don't see how it's relevant or would keep you from getting your CHL unless you completed any portion of the prison time/parole less than 5 years ago.

I'm sure you'll get more opinions from others with more direct experience with the law than I, but I don't believe it is relevant.

I was looking for a something I saw before but was unable to find it. It stated something about having more than 1 misdemeanor conviction within a certain time period would prevent you from getting a CHL for 10 years.

All misdemeanors, and all convictions were more than 5 years ago? Not involving drugs or alcohol?

Sounds like you are good to go. If you still have questions, call the DPS helpline. The number should be on your application.

The only way it should interfere with getting your CHL is if either of them involved any kind of threat or violence against a family member.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't it from final disposition. If he was on probation for 10 years could it still be an issue?
