Not for myself but for a co worker. I felt like it would be a better choice than some Ruger and S&W 9mm that he saw on sale at Academy, not sure which models they were. From what I've heard I had a better feeling about the XD reliability.

The XD's are generally considered to be very reliable. Your co-worker can't really go wrong with one. There was a recent thread about them here:

The Ruger was probably the SR9 or SR9c - also very good choices, IMO (I have the SR9c). The S&W might have been an M&P 9 or 9c - also a very good and reliable choice. For me, it came down to how they feel in the hand and I thought the SR9c was slightly more concealable. But I was a hairs breath from choosing either one of those.

it conceals great in my Crossbreed Holster (IWB).
The backstrap safety along with the trigger safety is a great combination.
Pasadena Gun Shows (High Caliber), I paid $420 for my wifes at Bachmann and $417 for mine at AJC Sports.
(Yes, we have 2 of them, bought about 6 weeks apart)
comes with Paddle holster, double magazine holder, Springfield "loader" (get an UPLULA instead!)
1 x 13 rd mag
1 x 16 rd mag

Had one for a while..XD40sc. Great gun! It was 100% reliable with any ammo.
Construction is top notch and easy to take apart and clean.

The guy I sold it to has put close to another thousand rounds through it and it's still running strong.

Have and carry the xd40sc everyday. Conceals well, even for a big guy and has never failed

I have an XD40SC. I absolutely love it. It has never had ANY issue with ANY ammo I have fed it. It has fed, fired, and ejected every single round I have ever put through it without issue. I dont think I even cleaned it until after the first 1000 rounds or so. I'm considering purchasing a XD9SC at the upcoming gun show, just because they are cheaper to shoot and it will fit the same holster.

I have a XD40SC that I got a few months ago at the Dallas Gun Show. NIB with 2 mags 1 9 round and 1 12 round extended. Paid $388, w/tax $420 out the door from AJC Sport Supply out of Clute, Texas.

Great shooter have put over 400 trouble free rounds of various range ammo & SD ammo. I usually run 165 gr FMJ for the Range and 180 JHP for SD. I shoot the first 100 rounds right out of the box without cleaning or anything with no problems. Very accurate with what I think is a great trigger, although I would like it to be a bit lighter. The recoil is much more mangageable than my previous .40 cal, a Taurus PT140. The XD doesn't have near the muzzle flip, which makes for faster followup shots. As I said previously the trigger is much better on the XD, more preditable as to where it breaks & not as long a pull as the Taurus. Plus I like have the higher capacity mags of the XD, all the Taurus had was 10 round capacity.

I have since bought 3 more extended 12 round mags and another 9 round mag. I have added the Pearce +1 Grip Extensions to the 9 round mags. I have purchased a conversion barrel for .357 Sig from EFK Fire Dragon, but have not tried it yet. They also make a 9mm conversion barrel for this gun and I might try sometime in future, al through I am told that shoot 9mm you need 9mm mags. The gun carries well in Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC IWB holster.

XDs are like fat girls, they eat everything and ask for more. ;-)

Five in the 9mm flavor in the family. No problems.
