I decided this morning that I was going to celebrate my birthday by heading out to the Rexas City range. I haven't been to the range since I Got my CHL about a month ago.

It only cost me $3.50 cause I earned the Senior Citizen discount today. The range was a bargain at full price though. I Shot 6, 15 round magazines, mostly Winchester White box 145 grain hollow point. I am improving and getting tighter grouping although I am still having to many flyers. I shot 15 rounds strong hand. Not to bad, but still need more practice. My new grip (thumbs parrallel) seems to be working . My trigger seems to have improved conciderably. Maybe I am just getting used to it.

Once again my P95 performed flawlessly, so far never a misfire. I was admiring a shooters .40 Berrtta, but noticed that his friend that was shooting it had 2 jams in as many mags. They sure are a pretty gun though. Maybe he was limp wristing it.

One good ole boy was shooting a big old Ruger 357 wheel gun. He sure looked like he was having a good time. He then took out his ittt bitty Kel-Tek PF-9. He was pretty decent with either gun. I over heard him telling his buddy how much he liked the PF9, and how reliable it has been right from the box. Its always great to see some one who is happy with their hand gun.

As I left I tucked my P95 into hiding and headed off to a few errands. Sure is nice to be able to carry while running around.

Hopefully it won't be so long between visits to the range next time. The weather sure is nice, and the folks are pretty goood too.

I've found that consistent, frequent practice is the key to whatever small accomplishments I achieve. I try to shoot twice a week, even if it's only a few rounds.

P.S.: The weather on the gulf coast was fantastic today, 80-ish with partly cloudy skies. We have the windows open. It looks like most of Texas is cooling down.

How'd that fellow get his hands on a PF9? I thought they had just shipped out the first hundred!

I am not positive it was a PF 9 I know it was a Barretta 9MM and he said it was a P somethin 9 and it was new. It sure was a pretty gun. It could have been a model I am not aware of .

Hey all you folks in Galveston, don't forget about the Galveston Rifle and Pistol Club out on 7 Mile road. They have a pistol range out to 25 yards and a rifle range out to 100 yards. They also have a plinking bay for .22s

They also have once a month pistol match but the last one for the year is this month on the 15th. It's not an action shoot but it is fun. You must be a member of the range to shoot and no guest shooters but the membership is very reasonable.

I had a brief encounter with the Galveston gun range....PSC is not really much of a drive when comparing the two.

That's true for you, but PSC is about a 40-mile trip for me. The Galveston range is about eight miles from my home.

Oooooh, okay. Different critter. You initially wrote "Kel-Tek PF-9", which is definitely not a Beretta.

The Barretta was a .40 Cal and the Keltec was a 9mm. Sorry for the confusion. The Beretta could very well have been the Px4.

Yeah, that is a heck of a drive for you. I should have been more clear that I was not comparing distance...I was comparing service for the buck.

I had a guy be really ugly to me at the Galveston range when waiting outside for a friend. It was enough for me to vow never returning. There are ranges closer to me than PSC....League City ( I aint going there) and the Texas City range in which I hope we can meet up and shoot sometime.

Hey...we all do what is best for us. I just never understood how I could be expected to join something that I was not allowed to see first!

I know that the Galveston Range is not the PSC. And many of us factor in issues when it comes to how much we shoot and how often.

Things such as distance to the range and the cost of gas. If Someone can shoot once or even twice a week, that's better and more fun than waiting for maybe once a month or longer.

The Galveston range is a little primitive.... for example it has a port-a-can, No one staffs the range and there is no club house or coke machines. It's just a place to go shoot.

I've never had a problem there and I'm sorry that Jason did. If you decide to give it another try, I would be happy to show you around and anyone else who wants to go. It used to be my primary range since I grew up less than about a mile west of the range. I do still shoot there from time to time and try to make the monthly pistol match.

If I still lived in Galveston it would still be my primary range because it would be so close and there are so many nice folks that shoot out there.

Now that I live on the Mainland my primary range is the PSC. I think it is the finest range in Texas!! I drive 25 miles one way to get there. I'm there alot...and maybe a little more. And sometimes I actually get to shoot.

If you want to shoot the matches you can still go to the PSC, It just cost a few more dollars for non members.

Anyway, I'm rambling again and off topic

I agree that PSC is first class, and I haven't seen anything else like it. If it wasn't so far, I would already have joined.

I went by the Galveston range today. No one was there so all I could do was look through the gate. It is bare-bones.

However, I live 15 minutes away. It would be really, really nice to be able to duck out for an hour and do some shooting, without spending $5 on gas and more than $8 a pop on range fees.

Dead giveaway of a PX4 is the polymer frame, and accesory rail under the barrel. All black. Not "itty bitty" though. Love mine, and yes its very "pretty". If it was jamming, he was limpwristing. These things will eat anything and have never been known to give problems.

It very well could have been limp wristing. The owner of the gunh toof his buddy out and his buddy was the one having the problem. I was behind the shooter and couldn't see if he was doing anything wrong.
The kel tec was the itty bitty gun .. not that it was so small, but just in comparison to the Ruger 357 mag.
