JOPLIN, Mo. -- A 13-year-old student wearing a mask and a long, black trenchcoat fired an AK-47 into the ceiling at his school Monday morning after confronting a pair of students and administrators, telling them "please don't make me do this," officials said.

No one was injured, and the boy, who police said was following a well-thought out plan, was taken into custody.

Theres a poll and some related information on the link...

The poll is now in favor of allowing teachers, administrators or other school officials to carry firearms in schools now...

I am especially sarcastic to the graphic they have on the story...All it is is a black shotgun and pistol over a sectioon of a school building, no story or comment, just a graphic...Something about that just tends to bug me for some reason...

Anyway...Just another school shooting, fortunately no one was hurt...

These things are on the rise.

I am violent person by nature, it took many years for me to control my rage and to be confident in my ability to do so. To this day when I reach a certain point of anger I need to isolately myself and just let it flow through me, or else I pop a cork.

Not once have I considered(even while I was in school) going to school and shooting a bunch of kids. Not once.

The problem isn't with the kids, its the lack of quality parenting, or any at all.

They didn't even bother finding a shotgun... they've got the silhouette of that eeeeeevil choice of assassins everywhere, the Browning Autoloading .22 rifle.

I am glad no one got hurt this time. I agree that parenting is likely cause of these child shooters. It's hard to believe he had thought this out as he did, and his parents, or anyone else didn't catch a clue.
The poll surprised me, maybe there is hope.

Yup, a "take down" model at that.

[Police Lt.] Jones said the gun belonged to the boy's parents. [Police Officer] Farmer said it is not uncommon for people in the area to own assault weapons.

Joplin, which has about 41,000 residents, is on the Kansas state line about 140 miles south of Kansas City, Mo.
That's an interesting quote from a police officer--it's not uncommon for local residents to own assault weapons.

Here's something else you don't see very often...
Fascinated by the Columbine bloodbath, a 13-year-old boy in a dark green trenchcoat and mask carried an assault rifle into his school Monday, pointed it at students and fired a shot into a ceiling before the weapon jammed, authorities said.

Officers arrested the teen behind a nearby building. Police described his weapon as a Mac-90, a replica of an AK-47 assault rifle.
How does an AK clone jam? Load the wrong ammo in the magazine?

But back on topic, I agree that our current philosophy towards our kids in school is heading us in the wrong direction. From the lack of discipline mentioned here to the infinite number of second chances to social promotion, blah, blah, blah.

Student Fires Gun in Mo. Middle School
BY MARCUS KABEL

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Fascinated by the Columbine bloodbath, a 13-year-old boy in a dark green trenchcoat and mask carried an assault rifle into his school Monday, pointed it at students and fired a shot into a ceiling before the weapon jammed, authorities said. No one was hurt.

"Please don't make me do this," he was quoted as telling administrators before police arrested him and thwarted what they called a "well thought-out plan" to terrorize his school.

Police said a note in the student's backpack indicated he had planted an explosive in the school, but no bombs were found.

Lt. Geoff Jones said the boy's motives were unclear. School officials said the student had no major disciplinary problems.

The seventh-grader, whose name was not immediately released, pointed the gun at two students inside Joplin Memorial Middle School but was confronted by an administrator who tried to talk him into putting the gun down, Jones said.

The boy refused and fired a shot into the ceiling of an entryway, police said. He tried to continue firing but the rifle jammed, according to Jones. The student then left the building.

"We don't believe he was trying to fire at administrators or students," Officer Curt Farmer said.

Officers arrested the teen behind a nearby building. Police described his weapon as a Mac-90, a replica of an AK-47 assault rifle.

Superintendent Jim Simpson said police told him the boy had a fascination with the Columbine High shooting that left 15 people dead near Littleton, Colo., in 1999.

The student was wearing a trench coat - like the student gunmen at Columbine - and had a T-shirt over his head with eye holes cut out, Farmer said.

Farmer said that along with note indicating an explosive was placed in the school, the boy's backpack held military manuals, instructions on assembling an improvised explosive device and detailed drawings of the school.

"This was quite well thought-out," Farmer said. "He had been planning this for a long time."

Jones said the gun belonged to the boy's parents, who kept the weapon in a safe at home. The parents told police their son apparently knew the combination to the gun safe. Farmer said it is not uncommon for people in the area to own assault weapons.

The shooting happened about 10 minutes before school started.

"A lot of the kids were scared," said eighth-grader Deron Moore. "After they said on the intercom that there was someone with a gun, I kind of went into shock."

Joplin, which has about 41,000 residents, is on the Kansas state line about 140 miles south of Kansas City, Mo.

Schools across the country have been on alert since three deadly school shootings in three states in a week. In Pennsylvania, church bells tolled Monday morning in remembrance of the five young Amish girls killed at their one-room schoolhouse one week earlier.

We'all at first glance it looked like a shotgun...duhhhhh... ;-)

But you have to admit the picture has an effect...Even though it doesn't have a purpose, other than to give away a cheap postable/linkable pic...

My MAK-90 jammed up a bunch of times when I took it to the range. I don't think it was ever lubed at all even though I bought it new.

So I just sprayed CLP in the inside and it shoots great now. I notice it jams up more b/c of the cheap ammo than the gun itself.
