From the Baytown sun
Waid pulled out a handgun and robbed a customer of his wallet, while the other suspect, who was armed with a knife, threw a female employee down on a table, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

While on the table, the 45-year-old woman was able to retrieve a .32 pistol from her pocket. She fired several times, hitting Waid in the leg and herself in the elbow.

Waid was flown by LifeFlight helicopter ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he underwent surgery for his severed femoral artery. He later died.
I assume the lady had a CHL. I am trying to understand how one shoots their own elbow.

When you're down trying to regain balance, it is quite easy to muzzle yourself. Especially when your hand-eye coordination went out the window.

You shoot your own elbow by using your weak arm to ward off a knife-wielding attacker while shooting from the hip.

Chalk one up for a so-called mouse gun.

When you have your finger in the trigger guard its easy to accidentally pull the trigger in a scuffle.

And don't underestimate the power of luck.
She got lucky.

I wonder if she was carrying legally?
It will be interesting to see if she will be charged.

Being that this happened within the establishment at which the victim was employed, CHL status may not be relevant. If the owner gave her permission to wear/carry a gun on the premises the victim's CHL status doesn't matter.

Very lucky. several shots, and only hitting the guy in the leg. A shot in the leg wasn't going to physically prevent Waid from shooting her. For some reason he never fired. There is no indication of the knife yielder gettinjg hit, he just took off. I think this incident could have easily ended up with her dead and both BGs getting away. She was very lucky.

The Houston media has completely ignored this story as far as I can tell. The Baytown Sun's idea of reporting is mostly posting press releases and police blotters. I think its unlikely we will hear more from the local media.

This was first reported as a game room.

It was later identified as operating eight liners, making it an illegal gambling operation.

Expect gambling charges to be filed.

Still a good shoot!

She had been thrown down on a table, which is hardly a traditional shooting stance.

From the PSC Day photos, I saw some practicing retreat/shoot from contact. I try to practice this, and the number one thing to remember is to get all your body parts behind the muzzle.

For someone who hasn't drilled this repeatedly, it would be easy to use the weak hand to fight while using the gun hand to shoot... and consquently shoot the weakside arm.

Ummm... what's an eight-liner?

She did well, and this shows that a .32 can do its share of damage.

I'm surprised she did this since she was thrown down.

Truthfully, I've never seen an eight liner.

It is some sort of gaming device, apparently resembling a slot machine.

While Texas has paramutuel betting and lottery, it's still narrowminded when it comes to other forms of gambling.

Mike, you haven't missed anything. It looks like a tic Tac toe board. The eight lines that you can get 3 in a row are the 3 virticle, 3 horizontal, & 2 corner to corner.
